The pundits in USA are starting to give the Trump Administration 200 days tops before it falls. Paddy Power is offering two to one odds that Trump is impeached in his first term. Paddy Power also puts the chances of a 2017 impeachment at four to one. One can only hope.

Thought Reuter was pretty mainstream media in GB not subject to a liberal bias but with Trump as our president soon got enough problems in USA. I thought England always did better when it was international in outlook vs looking inwards but just a Yank with interest in UK aviation history.

Reuter is reporting that Britain’s health service is engulfed in a “humanitarian crisis” that requires the support of the Red Cross to use Land Rovers to transport patients, the charity said on Saturday. Is this effecting any of the forum members. I am 70 and I know a lot of other members are over 60. In USA we have Social Security but that is only for those over 65 or disabled. My former employee is also helping with my healthcare. It sure pays to have a decent employer with benefits.

Mahone – I agree with you that the movie based on Wolfe’s book falsely built up the legend of Yeager at the expense of the seven original astronauts . Good thing Life magazine publicized the seven at the time and it helped them career wise and financially. Wolf was just looking for a angle to sell books in my opinion. Glenn definitely loved flying based on the fact he flew his own plane until he was 90. This in spite of the dangers of flying in combat, record breaking flights, and space exploration. Some airline pilots don’t even like to fly on their days off.

I even liked the movie the Right Stuff where the actor playing Glenn was on a national TV program called Name That Tune where he successful names the tune being played as Straighten Up and Fly Right. The movie was universally panned by aviation critics including test pilot Scott Crossfield who didn’t like the film making fun of President LBJ. Chuck Yeager played the bartender at the Happy Bottoms Riding Club. One of my favorite aviation movies no matter what others thought.

I was going to vote for him 1984 but somehow the Democrats chose Mondale instead. Four time senator from Ohio he helped his wife overcome her life long case of stuttering. What is really neat that he owned and flew his own twin aircraft with his wife at his side until he turned 90.

Piece of Cake was nihilistic and provocative on purpose(the book even more so) although nothing was wrong with the acting or film making. The author was a one time RAF pilot I believe who thought that the RN could alone prevent the German invasion – a highly doubtful proposition.

On of my top 3 aviation movies after Spirit of St. Louis and Island in the Sky. Thought Susannah York was very attractive in 1968(she passed away a couple of years ago). One of the worse GB aviation movies or series was Piece of Cake.

USA is a Right nation – politics right of center due to religious, racial, and economics conditions. Obama was reelected in 2012 with only 39% of the white vote. If Clinton can carry Florida (made up of large groups of blacks, Hispanics, and Jews) she would be almost impossible to beat. Note: Obama carried Florida twice.

I bought an Aeroplane issue dated in the 37-38 range and was surprised how much respect and even awe Grey showed towards Hitler. He also spoke in racial overtones. Of course this was more acceptable then than now – must remember history in the context of the mores of the times.

Well maybe everyone else knew about this but I did not. Also, why is Aeroplane archives not available? Would it have anything to do over C G Grey being forced to resign in 1940 because of his pro Facist leanings.

Meddle you imply that just flying around aimlessly makes no sense or at least to you. So be it but I never got over the wonder of flight and never will. To me saving up all year to take an airline flight to some vacation spot is totally unattractive. Yes the airlines are just mass transit today – rather take the train if possible. To each his own but I like about reading aviation history but have found that airshows are not worth the trouble – how many simulated attacks on pearl harbor does one need to see.

I soled in a J-3 cub in early 1967 – could be rented for $7/hr. Later in 1967 when I was doing dual cross country in a PA18-95(1957 Super Cub) I used the LF receiver to follow the LF beam to the Norfolk LF range that still was in service because some older Navy patrol aircraft need it. If you were on one of four beams you got a steady hum – get off the beam and you got dot dash or the opposite depending if you were right or left. The good old days.
