From today’s DT, his obituary.

Hispano Aviación HA-1112 Buchón, even. I wonder if this company could be done under trade descriptions claiming they are genuine WW2 Me’s. They were built post war – in Spain!
Interesting interview with Dave Rohrer, CEO CWHM and Lancaster pilot about the visit this summer.
Not sure why this is all over social media again today. This is a DM article from a couple of years ago. The medals sold in March 2013 for £155,000 to pay for his care. This was always a private family matter.
Oddly enough, I was very recently going through a friend’s father’s log book explaining the different entries to her, her father having died some years ago, he’d been in 576 Squadron and Stan Slater was his flight commander and had signed off a number of the pages.
BBMF’s FB page had a big “hint” about this today.
Mark,
Coincidently regarding ship wreck war graves in foreign waters, this in today’s Sunday Telegraph makes very sad reading.
Interesting article from the Royal Canadian Air Force…..and the best explanation I’ve seen why the BBMF Lancaster will not be going to Canada.

More to the point is seeing the U.S. Embassy in Grosvenor Square without road blocks, fortifications and armed police!
Jay, as I said before, the low for the year for me has been the constant carping from a minority, on forums and elsewhere, complaining about, “why not here where I live?” . They never answer the simple question, ” well the Lancaster flew 3,500 miles to get to UK, why can’t you travel a couple of hundred to see it?”. The carping started as soon has the schedule was announced in March and I’m disgusted to see that it continues long after the Canadians have gone home. They are a minority. A small group who can’t leave a keyboard and get out into the real world. It’s reflected badly on UK as I know CWHM have been reading this forum and others, as well as FB, but their right of reply is limited.
And I’ll say again, jumping up and down, I travelled from Spain!!!!!
Still it’s nice to know that had the Canadian Lancaster spent more time North of the border, the people there are so generous they’d have paid for a new Merlin all by themselves. Missed opportunity there CWHM.
Mmm – Guy Martin’s Lancaster – Celebrity aviation restorer returns the world’s third Lancaster to flight!
Over on FB, apparently the Pantons were approached about this, but have turned the offer down.
Interesting, thanks Matt. Still I never expect the press to get it right, even in India.
I wonder how much fencing in the area is geodetic.

The guy second left, was a former Flight Engineer who flew 30 operations with 166 Squadron from RAF Kirmington, now Humberside Airport. His longest mission was to Danzig/Gdansk. A trip of 9 hours. This was his first time back in a Lanc since. Was a privilege to say I flew with a veteran.
And I promise I will not mention this flight again!
