    OK, I’ll bite…..why not?

Read the Thread “Seasons Highs and Lows” – you’ll soon get the reason.

….and as I keep telling people, I travelled from Southern Spain! But I guess I had a real reason to, but nevertheless. The Lancaster flew 3,500 miles to get to UK, but all some people “up North” have done is complain.

This for me this has been the “season low” by a long way.

Happy to sign, but be aware CWHM are themselves very reluctant to discuss the terms of the loan.

There are pictures and 3 bits of video on my Facebook page. I can be found by the correct spelling of my name, David Kavanagh (believe it or not, I wrongly spelt my surname when I set up the Forum account here many years ago). My FB Picture is a grinning idiot in front of the Lancaster.
I’ll see if I can work out how to upload the film here and some pictures.

The first time caught sight of the two Lancasters at Dunsfold
The Vulcan and 3 X Gnat flypast
The two Lancasters and Vulcan flypast seen from former RAF Metheringham
…….and not an Air Show, but my flight on board the CWHM Lancaster!

    From “Lincoln at War” says…
“…..3 props feathered and barely 8 ft of the deck – less under the H2S – RF346 Bears down on the cameraman at TFU Defford, Sept 1949, flown by NZ Flt Lt Alan Gibson, DFM. Very low flying (usually on 4 engines) was part of experiments involving proximity fuse testing.”

Interestingly, this picture is used as a backdrop to an exhibition on the Dambusters raid at the Grantham Museum. Chap there didn’t seem too impressed when I pointed the mistake out to him.

This makes interesting reading concerning the costs of the trip to CWHM. Final figures not in yet, but they seem to think they will be in the black. Still, I’d have called the tour “priceless” !

You are quite right, apologies. The RAF Museum seems to get so much stick on here, I’d much prefer to see constructive comments, but my tone was wrong.

I think most people watching were surprised at the holding pattern south of Keflavik and how long it went on for after such a long flight. there were a number of airliners that landed one after the other while this was going on. I assume the Lancaster crew therefore never expressed any concerns.
