Nothing daft there. I was tracking her from Spain before my trip to UK, although the time difference wasn’t so great!
Ok, let’s see if this runs. After the Lancaster Summer can you mention one, and just one, moment in time that you went WOW! That will never happen again in my life – and thank you CWHM. Was it first hearing about the trip? Meeting the crew? The first day arrival at Coningsby? The day Vera left? Hearing she had returned?
Ok here is mine (I’ll park the moment the week earlier when I flew on board Vera!!!)
Wow moment for me was the moment two Lancasters first hove into view, from a distance, at Dunsfold.
comments are intended as a “thank you” to CWHM, please.
TonyT, I posted a couple of my pictures from my flight in August on the Mynarski Lancaster on page 30.
No arguments – just friendly discussion. Despite living in Spain I traveled to UK and flew on board the CWHM Lancaster from Humberside – one of the greatest things I have ever done in my life. So not that peeved. I have met the crew and the CWHM staff. I have never met such a more professional group of people. I’m just at a bit of lose as to why there should be comment about how the aircraft was landed or their equipment. OK having met the guys I am a bit bias.
Apologies all. Perhaps I have have just missed a point. Or miss understood something. I’ll say no more as I don’t want the thread closed.
Oh! Please! I flew on board the aircraft. So pleased I had such a near death experience. I’ll live every day now as a bonus.
I do think that is rather unfair, one operator is a museum on a small budget and the other simply isn’t, as for flying ad hoc that is also unfair, as ex RAF and now in the Civilian world I have seen both sides of the coin, the RAF are anal operational wise, where as the Civilian side of things isn’t, it is lighter, but still operates within the regulations. That film of the near miss at Blackpool is a farce, it’s simply a curved approach. And let’s not forget the Canadian Lanc pilot is ex RCAF and is now the current highest time Lancaster pilot in the world with almost 750 hours. Well, bar those older exRAF WW 2 chaps no longer flying 🙂
Totally agree TonyT. Very unfair.
And can perhaps people who are STILL complaining shut up now. Yes very unfair what is being suggested that they flew to UK and back and it was not safe. How dare anyone suggest that.
Wow, she’s home!!!!!!
Not sure what the point your friend was making there with those two clips.
CWHM have said that she is night stopping at Ottawa, rather than fly on to Hamilton today because there is a wedding reception going on in her hangar at Hamilton and the didn’t want the wedding party overrun by hundreds of extra people turning up at the airfield!
Interesting post there, Matt. Although I’ll probably not try that on the M25 orbital motorway around London.
CWHM have just announced that the Lancaster has landed in. Greenland due to high head winds. They will refuel and intend to arrive Goose Bay, 6.00pm local.
Charlie, there are arriving at Goose Bay tonight and intending to fly on to the Vintage Wings of Canada Airshow at Gatineau Airport, Ottawa, arriving 13.00 Sat afternoon. Night stopping there and flying on to Hamilton on Sunday morning.
CWHM say they are on an 8 hour flight, so direct to Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada. They have an air show appearance booked for Saturday afternoon, believe it or not!
When I went to see the CAF 11 years ago, they still had FIFI flyby, bombs doors open, followed by a massive explosion on the ground which did look particularly mushroom shaped.
Does make sense actually!
