On an old obituary I found this,

“After graduating, Maynard Smith worked as a “stress man” for a small company called Myles Aircraft, calculating the stresses in aircraft wings”

    I assume they mean “Miles”

My actual point was by the end of WW2 Churchill and Britain had no influence on events. And Stalin could run rings round Truman. Yalta and Potsdam agreements were a disgrace. Many Poles who fought for the West were disgraced, imprisoned and worse when they returned home. But short of the West taking on the Red Army at the end of WW2, what else could be done? (Churchill’s only concern was that Greece would remain outside the Soviet camp as he had romantic ideas that Greece was the birthplace of the concept of Democracy). That was the reality at the time.

Real politics I’m afraid mike J. Although by the end of the war what influence Churchill still had is debatable and I think he knew that there was very little the West could do to stop the Soviets doing what they wanted in the east.

Use “Frontline” to kill and prevent fleas on your cats and dogs.

Lincoln7. Pleased to hear that you take responsibility for your fishing and the mess of others!

SNAFU – “national radio DJ” – Big surprise there….

Can WP840 elaborate which history magazine you were reading? They may need some clarification with them, or else this becomes “fact”.

Dare not tell you how much I spent on one of the dogs when he swallowed a fish hook on the beach!

No David, the company paid for the Lobster direct – The cost of ‘corporate entertainment’ will come out of the company bottom line.

I only ever worked in the Public Sector. Lobster and expense accounts were something I could only ever dream about! (Take your point though).

You obviously don’t move in the right circles. 🙂

    Clearly not!

Hardly – the company pays for the ticket don’t they?

In Napoleon’s example the “fat cat” himself hadn’t paid, just claimed his lobster off his company expenses. Not that I’ve ever seen lobster at an air show come to think of it.

P.S. Does the word FREELOADER also apply to the corporate fat cats who get their free gold pass and Lobster dinner courtesy of a free day out at the expense of the companies they use.

    Yes!
