94 and still no knighthood. Heard him speak a couple of times. Not to be missed if you get the chance.

Err… Beyond any financial value, I’d say.

This story get worse. So when the Chairman of LLA is seriously ill and incapacitated (get well soon Stuart), the LLA committee decide, with out consulting him, to withdraw support to BBMF. Further, the LLA members (of which i am one) were not consulted about this decision. BBMF having decided to set up a competing supporters “club” after many years of support by LLA, a decision which I still believe is a kick in the teeth of LLA. No wonder Stuart decided to resign. Kind of think, “a plague on both your houses “.

It is a shame how history is being taught as my Niece is 13 and her school does not teach World War Two until next year as it is considered too traumatising to cover until they reach a certain age.

Traumatising! Blimey when I was 12/13 in 1976 the entire school, regardless of whether they were studying history or not, were led into the school hall to be shown the “World at War” “Genocide” episode.

After 30 year of supporting BBMF, where was BBMF in LLA hour of need? Lest we forget???

Yes, LLA has had some admin problems in the last couple of years, but seem to have over come them. The magazine itself greatly improved a few years back. But this does seem a great kick in the teeth for all the support LLA has given BBMF over 30 years or so. I bet Stuart Stephenson (LLA chairman) isn’t a happy man have all he’s put into LLA. Ungrateful Mod/RAF/bbmf springs to mind.
I’d reluctantly leave LLA as I can’t see it’s relevance now. Unlikely to join a “commercial club” whatever their plans. LLA was a charity.

I have to say you can read this in a way that, rather it was on the wall one moment and gone the next; you can read this to mean that an audit of the fixtures and fittings has not revealed it. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s been stolen, but rather it can’t be found right now. If it was given to the pub in the 90’s it could have been put in a cupboard a while ago and is now lost….Or conversely it may have been stolen a while ago! Anyway hope it gets found.
Has the pub reported it as stolen?

Nice pics. Went to NYC last year and of course went to the Intrepid. I didn’t have the blue sky for my pictures! NYC probably the best place in the world!

Worth repeating what I said when this came up before. Bomber Command fought a campaign made up of several battles, Battle of Rhur, Battle of Hamburg, Battle of Berlin etc. hence the argument for a Campaign medal and not a “battle” clasp. When this was first reported a few weeks ago, the Govt. argued that BC had been treated differently to “Fighter Command”. What they were referring to was the BofB Clasp, not FIghter Command. Even this argument of course falls on its head, because you could have been in Fighter Command, not been in the BofB and not got anything extra.

It’s all too late, too little, non sensical, but at least it’s something.

Nice piece. Would have been wrong to suggest getting rid of 617 in this of all years. Shame the DT has a picture of Gibson when he was with 106 Squadron!

Thanks Charlie. This was covered in an earlier Channel 4 programme encompassing Brtish civil aviation post war. I’ll not be watching it. Good for those who want more detail/a different perspective.

Well fool you and the rest of you who have dismissed this with out even watching it. You are missing a damn good programme about the investigation into the lost Comets by those who did the investigation into the crashes.

Interesting, well researched article. As mentioned S/L Peter Thompson was later responsible for establishing the Historic Aircraft Flight at Biggin Hill in 1957. Now, of course, the BBMF.
