I thought that the canards on the M4000 were moveable, but only on pilot demand.

French test pilots who had tested the F-15 reported the M4000 as way superior.

Just a small dig……but…..is being “decorated by Stalin himself” something to brag about?

Stalin was the head of an allied country at the time.

    10 years? Weird calculation.

Why ? Rafale was not in service before 2002, after all.

😀 So, according to pilots :

    Germany :
Typhoon >> Rafale (according to Major Marc Grüne).
Typhoon > F-22 (correct me if I’m wrong, but again, according to Major Marc Grüne).

    USA :
    F-22 > Typhoon (USAF sources).
    F-22 > Rafale (USAF sources).
side note : they basically have different memories about the encounters than their counterparts’. 😀

    France :
    Rafale >> Typhoon
    Rafale = F-22.

    Addendum :

Major Marc Grüne is well known in the AdA, as an exchange pilot.
His callsign is “Turbo”. He has got a website : http://www.fighterpilot.de/

He was pilot in the 1/12 Cambresis squadron, on Mirage 2000 RDI. He’s a very experimented pilot, and I guess he has nothing to learn about air-to-air combat. No wonder he was very successful with his Typhoon.

I guess this video (by Dobberman) is a good reportage about how “Turbo” wins even outnumbered in dogfight :

    I’m not sure.

Last year, it was the best jet solo display (Paul Bowen’s). Typhoon got this one.
Now it’s the Sir Douglas Bader best Individual Flying display (no jet). Just like in 2009.

Inflight collision and bad fuel management are not like manufacturing problems.

We will probably wait for 2 or 3 years to know what happened.

Don’t you think that the evaluation context implies that those costs are defined by quite similar conditions ?

We need someone from Dassault to say that in order to lend credibility:D

    I don’t understand.

I’m glad to see that two of the eurocanards are capable of challenging the F-22 in dogfight.

    @TMor
That’s a rather stupid explanation. Do you seriously believe that the UAE AF is basing it’s requirements and concerns on base of internet rumours and news paper articles?

The “requirement” was dropped after some demonstrations (even before Lybia).
So, I wouldn’t be surprised if my “rather stupid explanation” was actually partly true. When requirements are dropped after demonstrations, there is no reason to think they knew what they were talking about before. Communications war and various propaganda are worth the effort and money, otherwise, they wouldn’t exist.

Mildave said the rest very well.

So why the complaint by the UAE?

Because they read newspapers and internet.
Each time France showed them what the aircraft can actually do, it eased the negociations on the engine.

This supplement is very much like the kind of stuffs we usually find in French papers. I’m happy to read such articles about Typhoon.

I agree with the idea that “omnirole” is some kind of buzz word (maybe copyrighted?), but it has actually a real reason to be in our inventory. Designing and building such an aircraft has a lot of implications, Rafale is a sophisticated fighter, it has a lot of capabilities.

It doesn’t make Rafale unique, of course (I have Hornet/SuperHornet in mind). however, there are other types which aren’t, and it appears that it brings a lot of concern here. If it wasn’t the case, then the definition wouldn’t be discussed.

    Jack, please stop writing nonsense..

    TMor,

Rafale will eventually be capable of replacing all French tactical FJs, but has not done so yet, and may never do so – since the current plan is to retain 60 Mirage 2000Bs.

Typhoon will will eventually be capable of replacing all German tactical FJs, but has not done so yet, but it is planned to do so.

You couldn’t refrain yourself from talking about your Typhoon, eh ?

Rafale was made to replace them all. It is capable of this, since it has, or is going to have, all the capabilities they had. It is omnirole. Dot.

Due to the little number of Rafale available now, and the very low production/delivery rate, we can’t scrap other FJs. They will last as long as possible.
