    In May, in Italy, during an exercise, a Eurofighter was virtually shot down by Gripens… In our french forum, Rob then told us that actually, while there was one loss, the Typhoon had shot 49 fighters down.

    I think it was worth mentioning.

    The last sentence says that it is stronger and allows the aircraft to supercruise.

    😀

    Nobody talked about the following, though i think it’s interesting. According to the latest Air & Cosmos, the new M88 ECO currently being “benchmarked” will finish these tests later this year. Results may help deciding whether it will equip (french) Rafale or not.

    The M88 ECO which benefits from the M88-3 is intended to demonstrate the ability to :
    -produce 60/90kN thrust, with still a longer life than the M88-2,
    -have a twice as long life as the M88-2 if set with the same settings (50/75kN).

    😉

    AFAIK the 125kg bomb isn’t developped yet.

    Sarkozy To Pitch Rafales to Morocco
    By PIERRE TRAN

    PARIS — French President Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to throw his political weight behind efforts to sell the Rafale fighter jet when he makes a state visit to Morocco at the end of October, in a bid to counter a U.S. offer of F-16s, French newspapers reported Sept. 21.
    “The Elysées [presidential office] has taken the matter in hand,” Le Monde reported. The president’s spokesman, David Martinou, told journalists Sept. 20 “the Rafale is a good deal,” and experts view it as “the best plane in the world.”😀
    Morocco has effectively decided in favor of a U.S. offer of 36 F-16s for less than $2 billion, La Tribune reported on its Web site. As a riposte, the French authorities have proposed 24 Rafales for 2 billion euros ($2.8 billion), or 12 Rafales and 12 Mirage 2000-9 fighters, the most capable of the 2000 series, the paper reported. A previous offer consisted of 18 Rafales for 2.3 billion euros.
    A Ministry of Defense official said, “Negotiations are still going on, and while no decision has been made, it would be premature to make any comments. It is up to Morocco to decide.”
    A spokesman for Dassault, the French aircraft company, declined comment, saying the matter was a government-to-government issue. Dassault builds both the Rafale and the Mirage.
    The advisers working on the French offer are diplomats, not industrial specialists, indicating the essentially political nature of the deal, a defense official said. The Rafale may be technically capable — the plane has scored well in trials in tenders held by South Korea and Singapore — but the political dimension is uppermost, the official said. The Asian countries chose U.S.-built aircraft.
    The Rafale was not invited for trials in Saudi Arabia, which has just signed for 72 Eurofighter Typhoons. Poland, as a new member of NATO and the European Union, chose the F-16.
    Remarks by Defense Minister Hervé Morin on Sept. 11 on the Rafale’s failure to find export buyers, implying it is too sophisticated, upset industry leaders who regard it as France’s technological flagship.
    France has historically held close ties to francophone Morocco, and a loss of that market to the United States would be a severe political and commercial blow to Paris.

    What a propaganda, isn’t it ? 😀

    ====EDIT :

    125kg bombs and triple racks

    It’s 6x250kg bombs with triple racks.

    it has a better range

    I’m still not sure of this, since the Typhoon do not bring 3x2000L tanks.

    for off boresight self-SEAD…

    DEAD. 😉

    TMor, the typhoon takes off in 12 seconds, you can use the little video timer at the bottom to accurately see (from brakes off).

    It’s not very easy to see accuratly, this is why i wrote “approximately”, and you may be right.;)

    Then climbs ABSOLUTELY VERTICAL .

    :rolleyes: With the zoom, we loose every reference marks.

    The rafale takes off in 17 seconds, with a similar loudout,

    I don’t see the moment the wheels are off the runway. In addition, the Rafale brings an additionnal belly drop tank.

    and certainly does not go straight up into the vertical after takeoff.

    I’m sorry, but we don’t really know, the video doesn’t show so much of the climb. It seems that the Rafale do not climb as straight up as the Typhoon, it’s hard to say.
    Scorpion82 simply expressed much better than i did.

    I believe this video is dedicated to whom that doesn’t trust the Typhoon
    potentiality or gelous rivals planes 😀

    The aircraft take off in 14 seconds approximatively (from brake off), then accelerate with a not so impressive angle of climb, and finally, the pilot pushes the stick so as to climb nearly vertically (we don’t really know) and disappears through the clouds (the clouds being quite low).
    I’m not sure this video (though it’s really impressive, i agree) demonstrate anything, compared to “rival planes”. 😉

    Does anybody have any more info on these new LERX things? would it be possible to post the pictures here?:confused:

    I’ve just registered on the forum and i still have the picture on my screen !

    Really wonderfull. The shape goes from the wing root and reach the upper corner of the engine air intake, with an angle around 70° maybe…

    Wonderfull. We really HAVE TO learn what it is !!! 😮

    Ok, so, it’s just an interim (i mean for CAS) solution, because UK will not purchase the GBU-12/22 or whatever ?
    But :
    -AASM is sometimes described as not accurate enough for CAS;
    -Brimstone is a tank/vehicule killer :confused: ;
    -1,000lbs is really huge…

    I thought that using a mere GBU-12 (or improved) should have been ok.

    Why no laser guided rockets too ? Why no SDB ?

    I still really don’t understand the choice of 1,000lbs bombs !

    Typhoon’s A-G game – it’s there for BAI and CAS, leaving interdiction to the Tornado.

    Pirate has kinematic ranging…

    😮 How does it work ? Is it accurate ? Do you have details to share ? 😀

    Uss Novice :
    We don’t know. The 130km range is certainly an optimistic range obtained in the best conditions… High altitude, afterburning and low aspect angle target. That’s what i suppose.
