Acetone is rather good at this type of stuff. can be a bit strong on paint etc .
not sure but im certain ive seen a cleaner that disolves most silocone sealents and joint componds . would suggest a look at your local Screwfix . theres a new large Screwfix store open to the publc on the outskirts of Cov. would take a look at there book, they have a very big range of products that might help.

the Vulcan air to air shots have always been favourites of mine.
post away some more from that shoot anytime
seems a fitting time also to see those shots again.

    Not quite fair burlington bert,

Smiler is a very busy guy as we move toward the operational phase, more so than during the restoration! The reduced numbers actually working physically during this latest phase of work to permit, means Smiler and the rest are all working flat out, they have achieved the latest work set them in well under the expected time scale and are now mainly involved in keeping the aircraft serviceable for flight tests, once MA give a date when all the necessary support functions and personnel are in place.

Additionally, the project engineers have little appetite for daily updates to forums where, in all their endeavours, they have received a non-ending and largely unfounded stream of accusations, insults, inuendo and personal axe grinding from opinionated, ill-informed and downright mischief making types, who like to appear experts, anonimously of course! Consider yourself lucky anyone from the project even bothers at all, God knows there is nought in it for them but grief. So, please back off and leave them to do the job and get the Vulcan ready for display.

Oh! as for me updating the Engineering Update, dream on dude, Smiler does it so well. Much as I try to respond as honestly as possible and am eager to see the truth and not the inuendo here on this forum, with modesty I say I am also maxed out, so my time on here is very limited. Neither Smiler or I have anytime, and certainly no duty, to perform the task you expect just at the moment. Remember there are other forums making the same demands too and we all have to have some private life too!

Personally speaking, I frankly I don’t care if any of the various forum based self-appointed management or technical experts, carpers, wingers, moaners, malcontents or disaffected ex-employees, are not updated as often as they feel their self-inflated importance may require. They have nothing positive or constructive to offer to help towards those actually engaged in the battle to get to the Vulcan a Permit to Fly.

At the end of the day, the project being completed is what I am about and all my efforts go to that goal. My sense of duty makes me feel I should try to inform the silent majority of great people, who, even if they have concerns, continue their efforts to quietly support the Vulcan in a truly British way. The 558 Club is the focus for that effort and that forum is where what time I have to spare is mainly spent, trying to keep the dedicated supporters as well informed as I may be able to do! You will find most of the answers there along with the real experts on what’s happening at the project.

So why not join the 558 club and actually help instead of sitting on the sidelines with the armchair generals and critics, genuine supporters are always welcome and we always need Volunteers to actively assist. 😉

Cannot be anyone from the TVOC with that attitude.
if so than he or she is a discrace to the whole system .
posting anonimously should not be from any of the TVOC team .
Bullshooter is just another anonimously poster and offers nothing for the cause of the project,

should change is username to bulls..er.

Walked over the fields today and the hangar to the left of the old control tower is almost pulled down.

this just leaves the hangar behined the control tower. if this will be pulled down i do not no.
picture of the destruction below .

Got some influence Peter getting Google to fly over specially for that photo!:D From the absence of any demolition equipment, it would look as though the other two hangars are remaining.

It is unusual from an aerial perspective not to be able to discern the old runways.

The M69 is the over the old runway?

1 of the 3 hangar’s was torn down a few years back.
it’s the other 2 you can see on those sat pics that are being being torn down.

will try and get a few images over the next few days.
the hangars have been used for storage of equipment of the 30th signal regt.
but it looks like they are being torn down and maybe replaced with new steel industrial type buildings,

do hope the old control tower is safe .

Ok, so the funds are in the pot, the possibility of air show appearances has been offered as a reality, what do TVOC need to ensure this all takes place, seems it is dependent on a rather ancient air start unit that is even older and more decrepit than I am, ‘Mutters quietlyinot beard.’

Anyway you lot, somewhere out there sitting under a pile of some other non descript items is a redundant unit, someone, somewhere will know of this item, who owns it and maybe be able too convince them to donate same, how’s about it.

Have the 3 units from Cyprus not arrived over here yet than?

Bullshooter – TVOC were all out to get the June flypast for the Falklands last year – when it was missed suddenly they couldnt anyway because it would have been on a Permit To Fly which precludes overflying population if my memory serves me correctly!

Spot on . even if they did have her flying then the powers that be would not have let her anyway.

Well if you take a look at the TVOC site you will find that somebody as given them the money for the test flight program and so 2008 should be a good year .

the test flights should be starting this or next week if the rumours are correct. Looks like the TVOC have pulled it off again .
    next hurdle

It’s about £1 million a year but you get about 900 displays/flypasts seen by millions of people and about 20,000 visit BBMF at Coningsby each year. Is it worth it of course it is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No offence or anything towards the BBMF.But the Lanc cost over half a million last year on a big service alone . so your saying that running the other types a year cost around half a million for a full season.

So i guess the spit under restoration this year is costing not a lot if the budget is £1million per season a figure i find very hard to get my head around .
if the BBMF can operate per season at that rate it puts the private war-bird operator to shame with the cry of how much it costs .
than again my point being its took around 15 years to get the Vulcan back in the air. 6 million£ that’s over the BBMF would be £15 million . thou i find the figures you quote very Disney .

15 years and say 6.5 million spent on it ,
how much as been spent on the BBMF over the same period .

Can anybody answer this one? you may very very surprised , and is it worth it.

To be honest i do not think anybody can remark on any sponsor or advertising matters.
adverts of a product can and do take things to a different level.

if a sponsor was to be found it could be in any shape or form .
to be honest they are like a new invention they produce ideas from something that until you see it you would never think of it.

A certain larger advert with Lancaster dropping bouncing bombs was a classic and out of the blue and such a top advert for the time.

Could we drop corn beef tins in some big joke commercial.
i do not think so but you can never under estimate the commercial world and way of thinking .
Red bull gives you wings and what a sponsor they have been to the Aviation world.

Smirnoff for there triple distilled Vodka ad with Lancaster and spits emerging from the sea. all commercial ads.

its a mine field and to be honest a unknown , until 558 is in the spot light and she gets some spot light over the summer the question and answers to funding are not worth debating .
what i can say is that the Aviation supporters have given hard blood sweat tears and money yes money being the big hurdle. one Ive felt myself with donations that have been felt through my household over the years.
i take my hat off to all that have given and if the recent update gets 558 in the spotlight for 2008 than anything past 2008 be it failure than at least the die hard supporters have given hard over the years .

the aircraft as a chance she will fly again and in front of a crowd how much and how long depends on giving a little for 2008 . if it folds than at least we all have given it a chance.

they may come a day when the BBMF may be chucked out of the Tax payers purse strings destined for the scrap yard what will the outcry be than . doom and gloom banter and put downs . who’s going to support death and destruction . Dresden city bombings the Lanc as a badder PR than the Vulcan the defender of the cold war and kept the peace .
