From the dry weight figures that the TVOC have come up with, she now weigh’s in at 39.000lb .
the full fuel load on a Vulcan was around 74.000lb and her old display weight with fuel was in the region of 130.000lb, i dont think her old display weight was with a full fuel load .
so if she now weigh’s in at 39.000lb and you half fill her with say 35.000lb of fuel she wil be very light . so as for needing full power i cannot she her needing it.
unless ive got my figures all wrong.
Take all your camera gear on as hand luggage.
you are allowed 15-20kgs in weight . so you should have no problems ,
allways good to have the camera at hand for those out of the window shots while up in the air to pass some of the boredom of the flight .
Strange the way things go regarding the paint used on dials.
My Gran who is 88 used to work for smiths during and after the war
in the paint shop doing dials etc.
she is still going strong may i add, or did smiths use a different paint. ?
her friend Gladys also worked the same job and still going well at blind 90 at the bingo at the day center.
Some nice pics above.
you must have been close by for a few of those shots.
3rd year ive been and its gotten better year after year,
anyway a few of the many i took over the weekend.

Rumour and speculation as been rife for a while around locations for the
Classic flight etc. St Mawgan speculation as been more promising than any of the other’s.
St Mawgan could be the best place with pleasure flights around the west coast and take in some Holiday public tours . some of the channel islands flights also.
Whatever happens it will be a sad day for Coventry area i will miss the sight and sounds over my rooftop that’s for sure. but end of the day what ever keeps the flight going is got to be for the best, location doe’s not matter
better viewing at St Mawgan also from the outside 😉
Must say the Lancaster on Satudays show was just fantastic.
with the main Battle going on the ground and the Lanc buzzing the battle field many times made for a real nostalgic scene.
Something i guess you would have to travel back to the 1940s to see.
Mustang ferocious Franky put on one of her best displays Ive ever seen
swooping in over the large battle grounds very spirited display ,
C47 Dakota another impressive display ,
YAK 52 with some very fine aerobatics and Parachute drop of a small teddy bear , quickly rescued from the ground by some splendid re-enactment medics of the period of the 1940s.
Spit MH434 and Spanish built ME109 red 1, ended the show with a splendid
display each,
finished off with a nice dog fight routine.
Lots of other attractions going on some cracking models flying and a few
other light aircraft actually landed on the small strip ,
was impressed at the skill of the pilots of the few aircraft that landed on the field .G-APIE was very happy with getting on .:)
3rd year this show as been run. the set up and location make it one of the best airshows for this period going.
thank,s to all at foxlands farm and those that organised the event for yet another winner .
not 100% sure but i think the Lanc will be flying over most of these events . plus wickenby and a few more . i did only glance at some Notams yesterday
so dont take it as gospel.
If you have the money go for the newest model in that range .
the new 40D is out in the shops . go and look in your nearest Jessops
and ask to see and have a feel and play with some of the them.
they should have some 40Ds in . my local store as them in as of yesterday .
The 30D is a very good camera mines been great over the past year or so. and for the money they are asking for 1 today around £600 its good value.
Like i said visit your local camera store and hold and feel the cameras and then you can make a better decision. be careful of some of the sales rubbish.
they do tend to push you if not careful in the wrong direction for sale target needs on certain brands .
Have not seen anything about this smoke screen around Coventry but it could be true.
Roger i guess you Know the one about them draining the lake at Coombe abbey , the Germans on clear night could find the lake shimmering like a big reflector mirror and it could be seen for miles. the other problem with the lake was that it is shaped like a big V or arrow pointing direct towards the city center. Mr bomber just followed the arrow into Cov .
they did drain the lake in the war not sure if it was before or after the blitz on the city thou. Was just wondering if the smoke screen was over the lakes at 1st to try and hide it?,
with little success so draining it was the next option.
Small event i visit every year ,
wishing for some nice weather .
Nice images.
Funny i seen most of those today while at Lego land 🙂
took a day trip down from the Midlands with wife and young lad for a day out
amazed at how much traffic flys over Lego land very low also . you can watch them lift off and fly head long at you from the drop from LHF up the rise out to Windsor.
Cheer’s chaps
That looks like the beast.
she sure was doing some nice low level flying around my area .
even my brother rang up as he we out cutting some fields out by Lutterworth
and he rang and said it had buzzed him a few times .
thanks again chaps i did think it could have been a new paint Jobie for one of the Cov based birds.
cheers Rich.
Last time i seen them at Kemble, they was both still in military marks
as was worn in RAF service 2006. so i would say there is no need for change and if so what markings would they need to be in.?
Dam good show, been going for the past few years and
allways a good day out something for everyone.
Not as far as I remember. I think one of the two has a high number of pressurisation cycles on the airframe, which may restrict its ability to operate at alititude, but I don’t believe there were issues with the other airframe.
Of course any potential purchaser will get about a ton of manuals and logs which will give the full story!
All well and true ,
but under CAA and in Civvie hands would they not be restricted from high
altitude flying
Meaning the pressurisation cycles on the airframe would not be a problem .?
