Monday, April 02, 2007 – Tvoc
Denis and his stalwart crew of volunteers are giving up their Easter Sunday to man the hangar. So do not let them be lonely. An exciting visit to view XH558 in her hangar is much better than another Easter Egg.
Open 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
Entry by Donation ( suggested £5.00 per adult children free)
Thanks guys! First public debut will be at Rockingham Speedway circuit near Banbury on 22nd April – here:
First air show will be at Shuttleworth’s Spring Air Day on 6th May.
Check your maps . Rockingham speedway is miles away fron Banbury.
try closure to Northamptonshire, Corby. you will be a bit closer for your debut show.
btw. all the best for the new season .
Hello,
Excellent to read more memories of Skegness Aerodrome.:)I hoped some would appear in time….
..2003:eek: I had not realised just how many years I have been sat at this ‘puter.;)
I went in search of info’ on the F104….I remember it being there briefly.
It seems it was during 1989 that it spent a while at Skeggy.
Having pulled Wrecks & Relics 12th edition from the shelf….and to my surprise, tucked in the page with ref to Skegness was a long lost little scrap of paper with pencil note that I had evidently lodged in there at some time….it reads “F104G arrived Skegness 27/6/89”.
It will be the one that is later shown at Grainthorpe, N.Lincs.??
Good to read that there is some film archived of Skegness.
I would certainly be pleased to see any photos posted up to highlight the memories…or any of the former Skegness based fleet today.
Thank you once again for posting on with memories of Skeggy.:) 🙂
Clive.
Thank’s for finding that out about the F-104. was it 1989 . seemed to be there for a few years if my memory serves me well.
not sure if they was a f100 there at some point ?.
still some happy times really around that airfield as a kid in the 70s with my jack russel ,Bruce.
Cost us a billion to erect a tent
cost us a billion and 7 years for 2 acres of turf and some plastic seats around it.
come on this country is a joke.
the games will be a massive money loss and no one will flock to the games as I’m sure every place to stay will be overpriced for the people of other countries .will be a great way for all the illegals to slip into the country thou.
how much and how long did it take for terminal 5 at Heathrow btw.

Blimey what a blast from the past.
Skeggie airfield was my childhood playground.
my grand parents Had a caravan on the site at the back of the hanger.
spent the 70’s summers spent at the fence of that airfield , happy times , not was mainly when i was told off for something i would wander off crying to the airfield fence and be cheered up by seeng the aircraft . was they not a F104 at the base once and a few other old jets over time stuck around the place,.
Thanks Ian and WF.
Can anyone shed light on the Non-IS Canon 70-300mm USM?
Whats the waste rate like?
Jagan the non I/S and USM non USM are all the same lens
the USM just uses a quieter focus motor than the non USM so say its makes it focus faster but if it does its nano seconds , The I/S version is the same lens bit with I/s built in to the lens . they all have the same glass at the front
so will all take the same quality picture. USM would be the one to go for . you do not really need the I/S for avaition stuff. unless you suffer badly with the shakes.
About 200 yards
The last but 1 shot as great perspective . with the fence post giveing relation to the height and the background.
cracking photo .
After all the helpful advice I have got, I think Cosford will be on the cards. What is the name of the train station beside it. Their website says it’s Cosford Halt, but that station isn’t on the National Rail website, just Cosford.
One more question – is the lighting at Cosford better than Hendon?
Lightning’s at Cosford they have more than 1 ?
so the answer is yes.
Cosford museum is free, and the new cold war hanger open.
Train staion outside the gate also. but could not tell you what train or timetable would cover this line.
All of the information above is good . but the biggest and most inportant
thing everyone above missed was the person’s panning of the camera.
for flying aircraft with props or jets when useing slow shutter speeds.
for prop aircraft flying past on landing you will find the engine is not useing so much RPM . so a slow shutter speed of around 1/200. + or -a stop either way is a good starting point.
for take off the RPM of the engine will be higher so a bit more shutter speed can be used 1/320. + or – a stop each way again.
A1servo on the focus and single shot . once you have the aircraft in focus and press the shutter button keep the button held down and follow the aircraft in the viewfinder for thos few seconds this is called panning and takes some practice , but its the biggest influence on the outcome of the shot.once you get the hang of it you can go for lower shutterspeeds and get greater effects of motion background blurr etc.
my advice would be start around the 1/320th shutter speed and get the panning of the subject with the shutter held down for a second . and then go slower as you feel more comfortable with the images you are getting .
you can use burst mode and take 3fps but learning the techniques of the camrea etc is the art . you can for static aircraft with props running drop your shutter speed very low hand held 1/100 will give a great effect . have a monopod or tripod and you can go even lower but the compact disc look of props i find dont look that great .
hope this helps .
