Must say that it looks more like a type to be flying very high with a long fast range.
those rear tailplanes are SR71 style.
just seems a lot of surfaces to grab the thin air,
hygroscopic materials are used on many of the new aircraft today,
would suggest a search and read of how hygroscopic materials work and could effect these airframes.
Nice pictures in the snow, good to see her still in the area and being looked after,
a pic below from the other Month while i paid a visit.
Have owned both of the above lens, the Sigma as the best range.
i do miss the 50mm end a lot.
Shooting recently at RAF Cottesmore with the 100-400 i cannot get a full side on shot of the Harriers when on the wait point, i can with 50mm.
all super zooms suffer at the long end. the 100-400 suffers around 350mm-400mm.
the Sigma over 430mm -500mm.
Both give very good results, the Canon is a little sharper, but its not as sharp
as the Sigma at 50mm or 500mm as it does not go there.
Tha Canon is very prone to failure of its Image stablizer system and also its locking ring, reapairs are costly with only 12 months warranty on Canon.
Not any issues with the Sigma, 2 years warranty with these i think?.
Must have been one of the Electras, i was driveing at the time along the Coventry to Banbury road heading to Banbury, spotted it flying low over Princethorpe between the trees and Hedges, did look like the 6 thou?.
DC6 flying around the Coventry area around 13.00 for around an hour,
looking good in the sunshine.
Question i have to ask is,
say the Stealth effect is in the future flawed if not allready?.
and systems are made to track say the F35/ F22 /B2 etc.
Are these aircraft and there weapons going to work if they have to swtich to low level attacks?.
can they get down in the weeds and fly under radar like what todays and yester year types have done,
What disadvantages would they have or any advances in this sceneario.
Just curious to think if we have such types in the future and they have to switch to low level strikes, as low level strikes are the only option, can they cut it.
Cheers Rich.
They have had offers from Discovery channel and other big name TV programs asking to make fly on the wall and other projects, all seemed to be rejected.
they have missed big coverage and highlighting the project to the public and beyond.
guess it could have earned the project some funds also.
Plenty of material out there Chox for you to write a book of her new flying life,
or have you allready started to pen a book? 😉
My understanding is there will be three bus routes.
As the event is in two halves either side of the (main) runway there is a free shuttle bus running between the two – south where the terminal is and west/north where the hangars/Airbase are.
The car park and ride runs from Brandon Stadium but I don’t know if it goes to the south or to the west/north but that’s irrelevant really as either links with the free shuttle bus. Brandon Stadium (NOT Brandon village) is not 8 miles away, I would estimate more like 4 miles (look it up on Google Earth) and on a Sunday Tollbar Island shouldn’t be a problem. Remember this is not an air display with crowds like Waddington or RIAT attendance will not be massive.
The third bus runs from Coventry city centre an terminates (according to the plan) at the west/north entrance. Again this will link with the free shuttle bus.I have no idea if the organisers have ordered enough buses – how long is a piece of string??
Roger Smith.
The 8 mles is the distance from my house to the Airbase entrance,
look under my Avatar and location and you will see the 8 miles is about correct. you could be under estimating the intrest from the public for this event. lets hope it raises lots of money for a good cause.
cheers Rich.
I think 2 adults in that circumstance would not have to pay the fiver each at the airport gate, that is for pedestrian visitors arriving on foot, not from the remote parking.
I think!!! Usual ‘in a good cause’ disclaimer in the event I’m wrong!
Lots of confusion about this Will.
people are unsure where to go and what the exact price for the event is.
Where does the park and ride bus drop people off from the Brandon speedway carpark.does the bus drop off at the pub and then have to walk the distance. or will it drop off inside the fence.will they be enough busses?
will people be standing around at Brandon waiting or sitting on a bus waiting to fill up before they head off to the airport.
what routes will the buses take, as if the traffic is big at the tollbar island like it normally is, things will start to grind to a halt.
The peugeot plant ground would have been a good park and ride.
Will be on my mountain bike do you have a cycle shed i can park up at.:D
I have thought about going too, but I dont want bus trips all round the place!
As I see it, when (and if) you manage to park on the Airports designated parking spaces (limited to 2,000) you have to get another bus to take you to the other side.
What time does anyone suggest I get there to secure a space on the Coventry Airfield then?
No time will get you on the airfield parking, all of the tickets sold out 24hrs ago.
you will have to park at Brandon speedway carpark, wait for a bus to shuttle you to the airport.
Park and ride from Brandon speedway carpark is a bit of a bus ride to the airport.
Just seen the signpost as i travaled along the fosseway,
from the A45 Pincethorpe island sending you down to Bretford and onto Brandon.
Must be expecting a lot,
shame they could not have used the old peugeot plant for park and ride.
Will be getting the mountain bike out and cycle the 8 miles to the airport.
Just park it up at Coventry for the winter,
perfect for the new theme the airport as set up,
an open airfield with all it needs Central for flights around the UK.
Open to the public to view and central with good road networks for public acesse, also a short drive from the Main TVOC offices.
No brainer really the place is perfect for 558,could even be a spare space in one of the hangars,
Being on the doorstep of a major city.
One of the reasons why the new arty building at Cosford was a waste of money,
all Cosford needed was a big super hangar to house such types that will retire over time.
No thought as gone into preserving any future types VC10s Hercules Nimrods. Merlin chinooks etc to name a few.
will see mega milions wasted at Hendon if there plans are carried out, with no forsight being made for future or even past cover for these Aircraft.
Some new pictures of the Aircraft taken today of the lifting of the C130.
