the 2nd shot is the worst.
the cockpit and front of the jet is soft ,
commom with this canon lens it degrades at the edges .
Most of the fleet of Jags are sitting rotting away at Benwaters . Same fate as a lot of the sea Harriers and Tornadoes.
seems today they go to the highest bidder for a fate of just rotting away or scrap. as in the past museums and collectors are allways and have been outbid by the scrap man .
Will be the same fate for the airframes at Cosford once they become surplus to requirement. the scrap man or other will snap the lot up for scrap or just to sit and rot away in a field.
the BMW,s are just a fraction of the many thousands of cars that are at present al around the airfield . fleets of lorries also had to the numbers.
so many cars that 558 is outside and waiting for some space to be cleared so they can get her in the hangar.
thought this was poorly planned with the aircraft just flown from Farnborough and 558 all dried out and hot from her flight home to be stuck outside again with heavey rain forcast for her to be placed back in the hangar all wet and damp.
Very nice weather for the Landing back at Bruntingthorpes this afternoon.
picture of 558 chucking her dirty washing out the back:)

Will be at the local event this sunday morning .
Tuesday the 11/11/on the 11th hour i wll be at the local armistace day parade. i am told we have the 3 Dakotas poppy dropping again .
I am destined never to see this aeroplane ( if it exists)
The ‘no shows’ started in May with Abingdon Fayre. The probability of a display act scrubbing is a direct function of the number of engines- think Vulcan!
Good chance of seeing her at Baginton Coventry this friday.
2nd chance will be on the 18th of this month also at Coventry.
Cheers for the info .
it must of been the Meteor . tend to overfly our village on the climb out from Coventry when they depart when 05 runway is being used,
as ive said thou i did not see the aircraft but modern mil stuff very rarely
overfly us.
Brought a framed Taylor print the other sunday at a local carboot.
paid a few £s for it , not bad as the print is large and frame.
Harrier by Robert Taylor is the print.
depicts 2 sea harrires in flight.
Would be nice if the aircraft is ready for action in the next week or so,
being close for a flypast at 1or2 remembrance day services down south;)
Also worth checking what picture styles you have set in your camera.
i find that standard or portrait produce soft flat images that need tweaking in photo shop.
I like the landscape picture style set from the custom menu offer good straight out the camera images .
if you shoot a RAW image you can view that image on your PC and select each of the picture style . this with give you some idea of the difference each one can make to your image.
Another question.
do you have a filter of any sort fitted to the front of the lens, this can have a poor effect also.
another reason when shooting at this angle is focus points use multi point this will help at this type of angle.
also this angle throws depth of field in to the subject with the airliner being a long subject a hundred feet long +.
pretty certain its settings and technique thats at issue as this lens thou on the avarage scale should produce better images . unless you have got a poor copy .
as ive said thou try a few different things , and the angle and speed of the subject . as been said the aircrat is heading at you at speed and not just on the horizontal panning faze its dropping on the vertical also.not sure if the aircraft is on rotation or finals but the effects are pretty much the same.
Yes, at those shutter speeds of 1/800th, you really do not need to use OS.
try shooting flying shots like the example pic you posted without the OS on.
Common problem is that many do not give the OS system time to start up and settle and do its job.
the other problem with this lens would be the Auto focus speed . the hardest thing for the AF is when the subject is heading towards you at speed, as the distance from the subject is changeing all the time and at speed.
you have to ask yourself can the AF keep up with ther ever changeing distance and speed of the subject and the shutter speed high enough to freeze it at that precise moment.
Also cropping the image to much can have effects like this when the image is cropped and saved at the wrong aspect ratio.
For your tight budget and the price of £200 it will give you pretty decent images.
Plenty good enought for web use and prints out at A4 plus.
Used to be a couple of blister type hangar buildings just of Mercer avenue.
Lots of old units around Coventry thou. with all those old cycle works from the past etc,
The old Dawes cylce works still survive in some form in the Barras heath area.
as for your question on the old Hangars could be worth google earth around Mercer avenue area.
good luck with the search .
Yep thats MIRA,
Village in the shot would be Higham on the hill ?
common to see mill aircraft overfly this area .
