Called into the farm this morning after work.
the place was allset up .
a lot of work had been done since last year with a long section of the hedge taken out at the front of the main battle field in front of the grass bank .
all with a hardcore base laid down and fence erected . it would also serve for a car park for the night time dinner dance in the large marquee.
all the trade tents etc all set up . what a lot of effort gone to waste due to this weather,
the days of just bring some wellies are gone today . its now all Health and safety .
Once again a real shame for all the hard work thats gone on over the year for it all to end due to the weather.
Can anyone say roughly at what time the Vulcan is due to make its display at Duxford on the 6/7th September please?
Would at a guess say 1st part of the afternoon . thou i would say get in the show early to avoid any ques that im sure will happen.
Build your own wooden workshop.
Price up from a few local timber yards the price for a few hundred meters of tongue and groove and some 2×2 timber for the frame work. other option if you do not want a tongue and groove finish is go for 8×4 ply wood sheets this quickens and makes the build a lot easier and the option of when building it to have 8×4 sections making it easy to take down in the future in said sections.
Looks like an Emerson heater tank .
Seen this posted on the TVOC Website.
Flight Schedule Is In The News Area Under “Flight Operations” Sub Heading.
Due to a technical issue with the port under carriage while repositioning the aircraft from Waddington to Brize Norton the aircraft will not be able to display at Dunsfold, Sywell or Broadlands Park.
There is a Caravan and camping site just on the outskirts of Wolvey village .
along the B4065. seem to be tents and vans on there most of the year . unsure if you have to be in the caravan and camping club thou.?
Link here for the site.

TO BE CONFIRMED.
All the better having 2 Lancs.
as said above if anything went wrong with the BBMF Lanc and this opportunity for just Jane was missed than we could have no Lanc flying.
with 2 on the circuit shared hours will help both airframes and back up for displays if 1 goes tech.
there’s no reason why it cannot be made to fly just money at present.
the skill’s are at present out there . look at the way the BBMF Lanc was stripped and rebuilt a few years back at Coventry.
the skills and know how may not be around in a few years to come.
Merlin engines can be rebuilt to Zero hour’s . what are we talking for that price . 1 million for all four to be rebuilt overhauled?.
What was the figures for the BBMF Lancs strip down & rebuild at Coventry ?
Miss the chance know and you will be kicking yourself later. what have the Panton Brothers got to loose only some Money you cannot take it with you when you pop your clogs . But what a legacy and memorial to leave .
As TJ as stated above . she should be out of Waddington and over to Lowestoft and RAF Marham Thursday.
Any news on 558 being here at ‘Norwich International’ (Horsham St Faiths to most on here) ! On 24 & 25 July to attend the Lowestoft Air Festival ?
Would love to point my lens at her again this year ??? Keith.
Looking at the news section on the Vulcan ‘s web site . Fanborough could be the last .
(Quote below.)
So with two shows down, there’s only one to go. A major sponsor must be found at Farnborough if XH558 is to continue to fly. If crowd reactions from the appearances so far are anything to go by the Vulcan should have no trouble in attracting a partner.
Having delivered on its promise to get XH558 a CAA Permit to Fly, the Vulcan to the Sky Trust’s mission to ‘Honour the Past, Inspire the Future’ is now in full flight. It’s been a long, hard and turbulent journey for the small but passionate team from Bruntingthorpe, and financial constraints are once more threatening the Vulcan’s long-term future.
This is make or break time for XH558, as Chief Executive Robert Pleming confirms:
What would you have done to make it happen then?
only chance it had of going ahead was if on Tuesday they stopped all entering the site and kept the car parks and entrances closed . they had the weather forecast for the week. poor weather Weds till Friday evening , the weekend was not going to be that bad .
The facts are they did not and let the place get ripped to bits.
if they closed the site prior to the weekend, ordered a trailer of straw at each entrance to the field car parks to be in place to be laid down Friday night and also got a tractor to pull a drainage spiked roller over the grass on the airfield viewing grass , they may have salvaged Saturdays show or even Sundays.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing thou.
But i feel the place was killed off by the weather and the use of the place while the rain was chucking it down. it had a slim chance if the steps above was carried out .
next year if the forecast is for rain leading up the the show than they should keep everyone out and off the car parks.
the weather on the Saturday and Sunday was very good for an Airshow.
many places had poor weather all week. but Ive not seen any other outside event that weekend cancelled. why because there car parks and show arena’s etc where not used while the rain fell. but only used after some soak time and bit of dry weather.
A shame it was killed by the weather at the end of the day. but a little thought they may of got one of the weekend days out of the week.
this will kill of any idea of anvanced tickets for next year i doubt many will buy into it next year. pay on the day and see the weather first.
I did notice that Waddington had laid a steel road from the main entrance all the way across to the parking Grass. they was prepared a little this year after last years mishap. and it rained most of the Saturday moring also. it saved the entrances and they got Sunday out of it also.
Did Waddington get an increased footflow though, does anyone know if attendance was up by a couple of thousand?
Trying to get into the Farnborough Website and its not working, so maybe they are updating it
Waddington looked like a full house both days despite the crap weather.
stories of them turning people away due to the full house.
how true this is without the full states ?
Would be nice for her to have a health check at Cov. any of her arrivals times would be nice as ive got my sons school sports day to photograph around 13.00hrs.
Just until you find your ‘snapshot’ – here’s a couple of my own shots of NX611(named “Guy Gibson” in those days) while she was up at Blackpool Airport in 1970. Hope they brings back good memories for you. As you say, you were only aged 4 at that time – do you have any personal recollections of the day you were photographed in front of her ? I’d really be interested to hear them if you do.
Cheers
Richard
Yep i can recall the day very well . will sort out the pic soon this week and post it up i did post the shot a while back.
i have some other pics from the same day if my memory is correct without digging the pics out of aircraft like a contra rotating prop sea fire or spit. 5 bladed spit or type ?.
been a while since i viewed the old pictures. they are in my parent collection .
but the Lanc with me and my brother are classics to me as my brother passed away almost 20years ago so the pics old strong for me and time we both sat in the lanc as young boys .
no doubt going yakety yak etc as would be the case back then.
as ive said it would be nice and will if i can love to sit in the Lanc again .
will dig that pic out this week and post and will dig and scan any others from my parents collection.
The 1st Aircraft i sat in was Just Jane as a 4 year old boy .
She was than at the time at Blackpool .
i did post a snap shot sometime ago of me and my Brother at the front of her at Blackpool . will see if i still have it floating around on an Hardrive somewhere.
Would love to sit in her once again maybe one day when i have some spare cash .
That Avro Lanc got me into this hobby and the whole Avro types.
still the same Avro fan as i was 38 years ago sitting in just Jane with me little stick of Blackpool rock.
Would be nice for her to fly again not an impossible task . after seeing the BBMF lanc dismantled at Coventry . Would seem it can be done very well with the right amount of funding. would be a lot cheaper to get airborne than say the Vulcan cost.
