Ah, I just love those pics.,sorry but I am going off topic as this is a helo thread & the question I have is hardly worth starting a thread for. Does anyone please know what the seating layout for the Battlefield Lynx & Flynx is? I regularly read that they can carry 8 armed troops & in the case of the Flynx possibly on crash resisant seats, there is room 6’9″ – 5’10” floorspace but the door does not appear to slide the full length of the cabin unlike the Blackhawk etc.How do the seats fit in? Again sorry to be off topic.
CEA FAR/MOUNT
Hi Logan
Hope that you are in better shape than the bloke on your banner. Sorry I dont have any info on the cost for the MEKO D. I had better get this right, the cost of CEA FAR/MOUNT shipsets has been quoted from a reliable source as between $NZ 130-170 Million. a lot of money in US AUD or NZ dollars, I suppose it will come down in time ,but when?
Off topic
Still off topic ,but we need another funding ‘black hole ” like a hole in our head. If the G&C design is eventually selected to be built it has the capacity to develop into one quite easily ala the Collins Class Subs which are eventually turning out OK but lots & lots of $$$$ later. I suppose we will eventually get the CEA FAR on the Anzacs but again it is expensive ,about $150 million++ a shipset I am led to believe.
Its only a paper [moon] Meko
I was under the impression that there was not an export customer, rather that the Meko-X design was a paper exercise intended to demonstrate upcoming technologys.
I agree with you on this . As regard to Oz being an export possibility, well at the time of the AWD Competition it was speculated in local media and Forums that B&V may offer the MEKO X or a version of it in the comp., but this did not eventuate & a modified F 124 was offered instead. The comp. was won by the Gibbs & Cox paper design which has the Spanish F100 as the OTS alternative,at the moment there is a lot of speculation that the F100 will eventually be the ship built , but at the moment opinions on this matter are like a*******s ,everyone has got one. [sorry to go off topic a bit]
Technically the F/A-18 doesn’t have a straight wing. The A-37 is a jet with an almost straight wing. The sweep on the F/A-18 leading edge is about the same as the F-104. The F-35C also has sweep that matches what is seen on the F/A-18. This works well for low speed handling, it did back then and it still does today.
When McDonnell Douglas and Northrop joined forces to produce the F/A-18 for the US Navy, it was agreed that McD would get the carrier based sales and Northrop would get the land-based sells. McD went after all sells and Northrop sued over it. No real F-18Ls were ever produced, it was a paper jet for the most part.
Spot on Bug Lover , prior to the court case Northrop had tried in their sales literature to promote the YF17 as the F18L to Canada and Australia but nothing came of it . There was never a real F/A 18L design at all.
Land Hornet/Cobra
The F/A 18A -B was based on the Northrop YF17[Cobra], the failed entrant in the LWF competition ultimately won by the F16. One of the YF17 prototypes was demonstrated to Canada in 1978 and called the F18L in Northrop promotional material, nothing came of this excercise. This partly explains the post & link by phantom2 .As far as I know there was never a McDonnell Douglas land version contemplated but I have no firm info on this.Wether the stats. for the YF17 could be classed as the F18L I dont really know .I have even confused myself with this post, it may help a bit ?????
Best to ignore this stuff ,I was still typing and did not see Sens post which makes more sense.
Up down ,down down ,???????
Hi Orko 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 I am not game to ask if they make it go up & down, they always filled subs up with water or pumped it out in the movies I have seen. I think I will stop here before I go under for the third time myself.
Hi Alepou Aaaaaaaaaaaargh I have been listening to her for 46 years already have a bit of pity for me. Maybe I could ask her if she knows anything about submarines, maybe not.

Bruce the Goose
The Dutch Mariners had a rather sordid safety record. Still a shame they were all scrapped (well, the ones that didn’t crash). My brothers inlaw-dad hasn’t got fond memories of the Merlins, he was a whole lot happier serving with other boatpeople in a submarine.
As for Bruce; let me introduce to you the Philosophy Faculty of the Australian University of Australia:

What a wonderful plane is the C-27 Spartan, now onto the real thrust of this thread. Maybe the trip on the Mariner was not such a brilliant idea after all, it sure looks great though. As for Bruce ,well he is alive & well down here, but working much harder & longer since the arrival of the new Industrial Relations Laws. Bruce is probably responsible for both the unilateral action & the deputy sherriff clangers by the government, stay tuned there is bound to be more as we get close to elections at the end of the year. By the way is there any reason why there doesnt seem to be much Canadian stuff on the Forum or is this just my imagination.
Nice pics. Alepou, I dont know much about Submarines [or anything else according to my wife] but what those thingoes sticking out the side of it ,they look like horizontal flues from a Gas Fire.
Unilateral Deputy Sherriff
Responsible members of the international community don’t act unilaterally. They either form an alliance, or gather a bunch of lackey states. The idea of Australia having the ‘need’ to strike Malaysia because of one threat or the other is preposterous and smells of Kopp-paranoia.
I tend to agree with you on this ,however, the “unilateral force” speech is never mentioned & is sidestepped by the Government these days. Another clanger was the “Deputy Sherriff” speech, even our mates in the US scoffed at that one and it did not help our cause in this region.By the way ,I may be a bit thick, but who on earth is Bruce. Ah well Arthur wouldnt we both rather be tooling around in a Martin Mariner than talking politics.
. And as for Oz being a ‘regional police’ force: that’s what you’ve been doing in Timor, Irian Jaya and the Solomons for quite some time. I doubt Malaysia loses any sleep over that.
Hi Arthur, I suspect Ya W might be right , its time to dust off the books ,start with the Atlas mate, Irian Jaya/West Papua is part of Indonesia, no Aussie military or police presence there at all.
Just as an aside to that reference- Our presence these days in the Solomons is mainly Australian Federal Police , they are not a military force, the AFP also have a strong presence in East Timor, though so also do the ADF. Both forces are in the Solomons & East Timor at the request of those countries Governments but I suppose it is still a Regional Police Force action. Anyhow enough of this ,lets get back to the magnificent C-27, I saw its superb display at Avalon ,but on the day I was there the general public could only look at it on the ground over the fence. The C130 & C17 were allowing the general public to walk through their cargo bays which in the case of the C17 is b.iiiiii.g.

Its all Greek to me
I stand corrected sir.
Unicorn
Ah well ,whats 9 or 10 million people between friends, of the extra Australians probably 2 or 3 million of them are of Greek origin anyhow, Melbourne has the geatest concentration of Greeks outside Athens we are told. This has been a big plus for us. Seriously though having second hand ships does have some advantages , at least they have some grunt ,of our latest 8 Frigates the Anzac class, only one the HMAS Warramunga has been fitted with the Harpoon missile the other 7 rely on their 127cm gun for anti -surface warfare.
It’s also attempting to do defence on the cheap.
If a country like Australia, with a smaller population that Greece can look at building AWD’s, then Greece should be able to.
Alternatively, they could work with the Spanish on the F100, same capabilities, in a new build ship.
Unicorn
Minor correction to stats. Australia has a population approx twice that of Greece & a substantially greater GDP, however the smaller population should not stop Greece building modern warships , money may be the real factor in defence on the cheap method.
Oz GDP 2005 $610Bill. Pop. 20.3Mill. Greece GDP 2005 $210Bill. Pop.10.6Mill.
Avalon Pics
Nice pics.,well done ,I thought that the Super Hornet & the C-27 displays were superb, interestingly Alenia are expecting to sell some [12-14] to the ADF so I suppose they pulled out all stops. Also I was surprised at the size of the Tiger ,quite a bit larger than I expected,in fact very much so.
