Flights back on sale throughout the winter. I wonder why the change of mind!
G.
Thanks all. I just read somewhere that EZY have changed their mind and reversed the decision to cancel. Which is good news if true however their site doesn’t show anything beyond end of October. And yeh, its always been a busy route when I’ve flown it (which is north of 20 times a year) and has been running for years, which would therefore surprise me if it wasn’t economically viable. Cheers, G.
Well done with this, really like this, maybe in a future edition you could expand to non lo-cos too?
Keep up the good work! 🙂
Ah ok cool, the reservation (27 sep) says 767 op by Delta, but a330 sounds marginally nicer 🙂

If you really want to listen to ATC etc whilst travelling within an aircraft (and don’t happen to be on United listening to their ‘channel 9’ service), have a look at the ‘Ramsey AMB1 Passive Airband Receiver’ from the states. I think you can get them under a different name in the UK from a couple of dealers. Essentially as they have no local oscillator (as all regular radios do), it is impossible for it to generate any local RF whatsoever, so in other words, zero chance of interference with any a/c systems. That said, I still cant see many airlines taking your word for that and allowing its use… but in theory at least, its an option.
Cheers, Graeme.
Thanks for that Deano. For informational purposes only, obviously 🙂
What kind of range would something like this give? http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?menuno=12599&menul1=1716&menul2=12599&minprice=20&maxprice=50
Chris, assuming you’re somewhere close to Newcastle, with this set’s built in aerial you’ll do fine listening to traffic into and out of Newcastle, and some of the overhead stuff too (126.925 is a good one to look out for where we live). But really, if you get bitten by the bug like I did some 25 years back, you’ll need something a little more capable that will let you store some actual precise frequencies and scan between them, and will let you attach an external aerial. You won’t need to spend a fortune though, there’s plenty of older sets to be found on ebay and the like and even for a new starter scanner these days you can get going for £50 with something like this http://www.radioscan.co.uk/uniden_ubc30xlt.html. It’s by no means top-end, but will really get you going.
It’s also worth noting that the EGNT ground frequency is used extensively daily in the busy periods such as early morning.
Any Q’s just ask 🙂

Very slick, well done!!
Flew out at lunchtime today to Newcastle, got to say the place is absolutely breathtaking. And a real breeze to travel through. OK we were a bit delayed due to the bags issue that now has become far worse than earlier in the day, but aside of the teething troubles today (which will get sorted), I think its a stunning terminal and has totally raised the bar of expectation as to what a world class terminal should be like. Well done BA and BAA (but slapped wrists all round for day 1 teething troubles)
Microsoft’s equivalent of Google Maps has reasonably up to date pics of the airport, the ‘birds eye view’ shows the tower during construction, from multiple angles no less. maps.live.com. Not sure if this helps.
Aircraft was being towed at the time and the tow bar from the tug went defective according to Jetphotos.net here: http://www.jetphotos.net/news/index.php?blog=1&title=singapore-cancels-a380-flight-puts-passe-400&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1. Imagine how annoyed you’d be if you’d been bumped onto a 747-400 having been due to do your first A380 flight!
Both essentially do the same thing, but there’s far more addons and support from the SBS-1 user community. That’s what I have and it is absolutely fantastic, cant recommend highly enough, however, make sure you budget for an outdoor aerial and very good low-loss coax cable if you want to get the best out of it.
Cheers, Graeme
Took a road trip down there last summer fantastic!! Will be great having a route there from NCL, Just hope it lasts.
I think from memory BMI Baby did ok on the route from MME? Certainly the twice I did it it was pretty full. Which hopefully should bode well for NCL…
ooo yet more traffic, im sure Easter Airways provides flight close enough to plymouth?
Nearest would be Cardiff or Soutampton on Eastern, neither that close. Nearest to Plymouth is Flybe into Exeter then EZY into BRS.
Gotta agree – 40 mins to get through at 530am, queue all the way downstairs then back to WH Smiths, nasty. Also at passports on the way back in, a similar 30 min wait, totally out of the ordinary for NCL.
I see! Thanks for that Nick, cheers
