Interesting that EK036’s routing after take off from rwy 25 today took it on a right turn towards the north east, not the usual left turn towards the south west out of Newcastle, wonder which way they go. I lost it about 40 miles out over the north sea, so not sure from there.
Nice shots. Is this new route seasonal or is it operating all year round?
Daily, all year. Brilliant! 🙂
My tutor advised me to buy that book a few months ago so I did. Not read much of it, just bits and pieces to help on a topic called International Aviation Regulations.
Do you work in Aviation?
No, just always been fascinated by it since my dad bought me an airband radio when i was 10 (24 years ago…….. that makes me feel old!). I can remember standing on the roof at Newcastle (when you could!) and seeing a bunch of houses off to the north of the bottom of rwy 25 and thinking how great it’d be to live there, I now do, perfect. Would love to work in the industry tho…
If you’re interested in aviation management it’s worth reading a book called The Airline Business by Rigas Doganis, essentially an economics textbook but really interesting and no doubt of use to your course
Can anyone confirm this report? Still nothing on BMI website
Very impressive, i’d love to see it in person!!! Many years ago as a kid i did work experience at Newcastle Airport, 3 days with Northeast Aviation (anyone remember them?) and 3 with ATC, the one occasion in my life i’ve made it into a control tower. I guess there’s zero chance of a visit to the new tower at EGNT when it’s completed even though i live just round the corner, gutted!!
Have a look at Air North – http://www.airnorth.demon.co.uk/. They have a pretty decent movements register, though i think you have to be a member to access it
Plenty here including company history etc: http://www.servisair.com/Home.aspx
Thanks guys. Im no pilot but i cant imagine why you’d only call mayday on Guard frequency if you were trying to get in to a particular airport. I didnt just imagine it!! anyway lets see if anyone can shed any light…
So I’m NOT mad as i feared then! 🙂 Thanks guys
Im a bit dissapointed at the expansion at NCL just the one route when there were stron rumours of 4 new routes at least.
Good news none the less for the other airports.
Newcastle – Aberdeen was also stated on their email shot this morning, though no mention of it on their website…
Pleasure 😀 Enjoy it!
The Yupi 7100 is a fantastic scanner, especially for airband, so i can only guess that either it has a fault, or the stock antenna is no good. I’ve used mine with a simple standard gain multiband ‘rubber’ antenna whilst at airports, and a larger higher-gain version of the same elsewhere for years, and its been absolutely great. At the end of the runway as you were, though, i’d have expected everything to boom in even on the stock antenna, so something sounds wrong. Obvious but worth checking, were you in AM and on precisely the correct frequency (the 7100 doesnt have 8.33 spacing so you may need to drop it to 1khz spacing and track down the best actual frequency in use). Also check you didnt have the attenuator switched in. Good luck, keep us informed
Hello, 1st posting, long time lurker on the board. NCL was closed most of the morning up to about 1145, I live about 1km from the bottom of 25 and it was eerily quiet, most odd from what i’m used to! Was monitoring Tower and Ground a lot of the morning and indeed there was a fair few stacked up in the hold, several of which did end up diverting, mainly to Tees, however for a period that closed too, which made for some interesting listening. Cheers G.
