Think the car park franchise is NCP, (or similar) as such nothing to do with RAFM. I dont expect the museum see’s a penny of the income. Maybe the no parking before we open rule is to prevent commuters parking and taking the tube into central London ?
TVAL in New Zealand have remade similar engines and Albatros aircraft. I would guess they may have done a lot of background research. Might be worth contacting them. http://www.thevintageaviator.co.nz
If the Sea Fury is being scanned for a future model kit I would suggest this was not the best example. Four blade prop, American engine, wing tip smoke generators not to mention any other non original Sea Fury airframe mods.
Have attended the Newark Aeroboot in the past as both seller and buyer. Although I only buy/sell books, models, etc. Previous engagement meant I did not attend 17th Oct. Would be really interested to attend events if there were more traders, but more importantly different traders. I like the idea of the turn and sell out the back of the car idea as I am a regular car boot seller I guess I would be able to bring stock which would interest others.
Interesting to read you have been able to scan the RAFM Typhoon whilst in Canada. Made me think. The model company Airfix are using scanning techniques to produce their lasted scale models. They produced an excellent 1:24 model kit, assumed they used scanning equipment. http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/hawker-typhoon-mkib-1-24.html
Now idea if their data would be available, or of any use for a 1:1 product ?
Isn’t that what I just said???
Sorry Mike threads crossed in the interweb. Your quite correct, same problem with moving on the Headcorn F-100, despite ours being interested.
Thought it was reported that a new owner had been found for the T-33 and F-100 but as they are ex French Air Force they are bound up in red tape as technically still owned by USAF and loaned out under the USAFM. The museum will only allowing them to got to accredited overseas museums.
Sorry to raise an old thread. But does anybody know what specialist equipment, if any, was required to remove and fit the overwing tanks. Any photos of this operation would be great. Assume there must be a sort of lifting beam ?
Has been mentioned a suriviors book on lesser known British WW2 warplanes is needed. Come on Gorden, you know you want to do it !!!
Ickwell Cricket club (due north of Old Warden) has been mentioned as a good viewing parking spot. I shall be on the airfield but would still like to know the display time.
wow never knew there was a Battle I survivor in Australia, Your website says ” Later a set of wings was donated by the RAF Museum at Hendon, UK.” Do you know the identity of those wings and were they were found in the UK.
And your restoring an Anson I as well. Very surprised, well done !!!
Quote ” The conservation area in Airspace is preparing for a series of corporate events. The Eastern apron will be a car park for a while, and the T-33 and Spitfire replica are inside: Events coming up include the H&H auction on October 13-14 (includes a Sherman tank!) and the Autumn Quilt Festival Oct 30 to Nov 1.”
So much for the “conservation area” lets make some money :apologetic:
Such a shame that with the winter weather coming up that IWM can not use that hangar space for storing some of the DAS airlines collection inside for the Winter.
Even if (as is more likely) the Lanc will not? make the Lincoln event on Friday. there is still the Blenhiem 3 Tornados, 3 Hawks and a Tutor! down to do flypasts
Tornados are from 9,12,and McRoberts Reply from XV(R) Sqns I believe
T
Hi Tim, any info on times for these flypasts or where aircraft might be operating ?
Paul
Even without the Lancaster this year the BBMF must have been busier than ever, with the six fighters being seen all over the country at events large and small, as either singles, pairs or on several occasions all six. I do not know the facts but the hours flown by the fighters and thus the extra hours of maintenance, not to mention the pilot hours really deserves recognition thus year. Well done BBMF and all who work and fly for them. I guess some would says its just another job, but it is a job which requires long hours and lots of weekend work. Thank goodness that they take pride in their work and go that extra mile so we can all enjoy seeing them still fly.
Fling Pencil wrote “When did the Fairey Battle moved to BoB Hall? It was Bomber hall last I saw.”
The Fairey Battle was in the Bomber Command Hall on 5th September, if they have moved it to BoB where is it ?
