Vampire FB5 was also painted black coded Z-77,was this Sandy Topen’s aircraft ?
suggest you have a look at the Fighter Control website. Same sort of thing as Air Scene UK. They have a very good photo section.
Ok I saw October 1983, but was there an airshow at Duxford the same day ? I remember being told by a friend that the B-52 arrived during the airshow, but that would be a Sunday ?
Can somebody remind me of the exact date the B-52 arrived at Duxford.
quote “New York Times Video of the Hudson River crash I was surprised to see a Concorde in the background”
Perhaps when the investigation of the Airbus crash is complete the A320 should also go on display at the quayside.
It was one hell of a delivery flight !!!
Its a crying shame that one of these aircraft can not be saved. Duxford and the DAS airliner collection would seem the obvious location, what about Wroughton and the Science Museum collection. Would gang at Liverpool Airport be able to accept another project ? MAM at Coventry have the start of a nice airliner collection, Agrosy, Viscount so the HS748 would fit in.
Where esle have you posted this Moggy ? I would like some more info on which aircraft are currently stored at Blackpool and who owns them ?
Totally agree with Pagen maybe the MH-53 should have gone to Weston Super Mare Helicopter Museum, would the USAF rules have allowed this sort of tranfer ? If the USAF had been asked might they have been able to provide an RF-4C, this type is not in UK preservation and had a very long service with USAFE units throughout the cold war.
Not sure of the details of Victor XL189 arrival at Waddington re an onboard fire. The aircraft was allocated as BDR but not used as such, it was parked next to Vulcan XM607 at the main gate until removed and scrapped late 198 As has been said before on this Forum this was a very short sighted decission. This aircraft was one of the first to deploy to Assension Island in early 1982 and was used to provide long range reconnaissance of the Falklands and South Georgia. During ‘Black Buck 1’ XL189, flown by a Squadron leader Tuxford, it remained airbourne for 14 hours in support of Vulcan XM607, it being the last Victor to provide fuel to the Vulcan. On the return leg to Assension XL189 provided fuel to another Victor, which had a fuel problem, thus leaving its self with insuffient fuel to return to base. Sq L Tuxford would have had to ditch 400 mile short had two more Victors not been scramble to provide assitance. Tuxford recieved the AFC for his actions that day. We all know that not every aircraft can be saved from the scrapman but some, such as XL189, deserve better.
What seagull ???
Another excellent book is British Experiment Turbojet Aircraft by Barry Jones published by Crowood.
Although some might disagree about their accuracy , Wikipedia , can be a usefull starting point for further reading.
are you able to provide a link to the supplier ????
Does the Viking at Brooklands have a set of wings ? Seem to remember that it used to be at Cosford, with the old BA collection many years ago, also would the Valetta bits from Sunderland have been of use on the Viking ?
Hi Steve, Got any photos of the event ? are any of the prints, which were signed at the event, on sale if so where ?
WOW thanks Mark , super fast reply !!!!
Never seen G-ALGT in that colour scheme before, do you have any details of what colour the wings were ? for possible model making project.
