    which MICA missiles…..

“We generally don’t train to an active missile threat “

So what are they used to doing? Only training against poor aggressors ?… Wouldn’t it be serious if they wouldn’t know how to fight in a modern combat environment?

I have read the 12 aircraft would be recent airframes. The 2000-5F were the most recent airframes which were updated. So I guess we are talking about the current French 2000-5F fleet. Except if someone was mistaken when saying something or if a journalist made a mistake or was unclear.

    France only has 34 (+1damaged) Mirage 2000-5F

I hope there’s an important reason which pushes the governement to sell the best air-to-air fighter currently in service in the armée de l’air, especially seeing how few we have of these aircraft.

They may hope future French / Brazilian cooperation contracts.

Furthermore the 2000-5F are not as good as the 2000-5 MK2 / 2000-9

Top Gear also did some funny things like trying to lock a Lotus Exige (sort of Lotus Elise) with an Apache.

I saw a clip once,I think for a french car of some sort that was on the French aircraft carrier Foch. There was a Super Etendard

It was a 1988 ad for the Citroën Visa GTI. We could see the car being lifted on the deck of the aircraft carrier with one of the elevators. And then the car was launched along with an Etendard IVP. At the end the car sinks, and then reappears attached to a French submarine. The president himself allowed the use of the submarine because it was a good ad for the navy at the same time.

The mirage will be able to use the same helmets than the Rafale.
It will certainly be incorporated in the next (last ?) major upgrade around 2010-2012

It is now stated that the Rafale pilots will use the Gerfaut HMS from Sagem.
I was speaking about the Topsight (from Thalès). Unless I’m mistaken I think I’ve read something about a possibility for the Indians to use the Topsight if the Mirage win the Indian deal.

Will the M-2000s for the IAF have Topsight helmets?

I’ve read something of this kind recently but I can’t remind where. It would be nice to have a confirmation or the contrary. And you, do you remember where you could have read/heard that?

You got to be right, they didn’t consult with you first! Because we all know you have all the information. Got forbid, these people who actually do these thing for living not consult you! What were they thinking.

I mean, they have million dollar equipments to do these test and they have resources at hand, but hey next time they should consult you and your amazing skills at doing google search.

    Once I ate an apple.

    One More Question.

Is Mirage-2000 Airframe a 3rd generation design with 4th generation avionics ,And a F-16’s airframe a 4th generation design with 4th gen avionics.

Why should it be? The Mirage 2000 is even newer than the F-16. This isn’t just a Mirage III. This was a new aircraft although it was based on a delta concept as was the Mirage III. The Mirage 2000 is fly by wire since the begining etc.

That once again proves how the Mirage 2000 is sometimes underrated. Many people still say “oh that’s just like a Mirage III”
That’s also what US pilots said at first in the first trainings against the Mirage 2000 in the 80’s until they see what the aircraft was really worth.

BTW I want someone to get me updates on these …….

    Rafale
    Power plant – Snecma M88- X ??
    Thrust – ??

The actual engine used by the French armies is the M88-2E4. (50 / 75 kN)

An M88-3 with 60 / 90 kN could be ready very soon if a country demands it. So, for exports take the second one.
