The Rafale will be better, that’s all. I could say “why do the US make the F-22 and F-35 whereas they can update their F-16, F-18 and F-15 which is what they are doing?”

The rafale will be better, new aerodinamic stuffs (at least as agile as the Mirage 2000 whereas it is bigger etc.) , reduced RCS, everything in the cockpit, avionics etc. it will be better in almost everything.
and it is also a fighter which can be used on aircraft carriers, the French navy needs new fighters (thats why we leave the EF2000 program)

But the Rafale is also expensive, that’s why Dassault continue to sell and update the Mirage 2000 which is a cheaper aircraft.

I have seen many pics about all kinds of Mirages but unfortunately I ve never seen a cockpit view of a 2000-9 for the moment.

Brazil may buy some Mirages (around 20?) in the future.

the 2000-9 is the name of the version for the UAE, a sort of 2000-5 Mk2 + in fact.
So Brazil could buy some 2000-5 Mk2 and could also add options, Dassault sells its planes with such or such thing, the countries have to choose what they need.
    anyway a 2000-9 is just a 2000-5 Mk2 +

about avionics, in fact the 2000-5 and its variants took some things from the development of the Rafale.

NATO allies don’t even share a bit of informations with each other about such things so it’s quite difficult to compare them. We can just compare the length, the G limit etc.. but we don’t know about the efficiency of one versus the other.

about the MICA, it exists in two versions, one with an infrared seeker (IR) and one with an electromagnetic seeker (RF/EM). The EM version has been into service for some years and the IR version is at the very end of developement.

Some informations about the Mirage 2000-9

It has the RDY-2 radar with a greater range, about 10 or 15% more than the RDY used by the 2000-5 (although it may be possible that some 2000-5 mk2 have the RDY-2)

It will carry the MICA IR (which isn’t the case for all the 2000-5 for the moment – just a matter of time) and it will carry the Black Shaheen, an export version of the Scalp / Storm Shadow

A little difference with the 2000-5, it has new larger screens in the cockpit.

The 2000-9 also has a network system which allows to share informations between the planes (as in modern aircrafts such as Rafale etc.)

The 2000-9 also has a data processing modular equipment like the state of the art aircrafts : F-22, Rafale etc…

First of all, hello to everybody since it is my first post here.

The French navy has 10 Rafale F1 (M1 to M10)

The French airforce has no Rafale into service and won’t until 2006 (first unit equiped will be 1/7 “Provence” from St Dizier)

about the other Rafales wich are used for the developement of the aircraft :

    – Rafale B301 (between F1 and F2)
    – Rafale B302 (between F1 and F2)
    – Rafale C101 (close to F2) will enter into service in the future (I don’t know about the two Rafale B already built that I have mentioned above)
    – Rafale M01 (I don’t know about its standard), will never enter into service

    Rafale A : retired
Rafale C01 : retired, used for engines tests
    Rafale M01 : retired

    B303 should come soon

The F2 standard hasn’t been validated yet.
