Why do you show missiles in the wing root fairings?

Some people have been arguing that those are bays for Short rage AAMs ,ome on each side for quick relise during dog fights. Personaly i think there is another purpose for those .. part of LO design or housing for ECM type of electronics

What kind of plans has Serbia traditionally had against possible Bulgarian expansion?

Bulgaria has always been looked at with distrust… especially since they have historical habit of stabbing us in the back when we least expect it.

    11th century
    12th century
    13th century
    14th century
    1812
    1854
    1889
    Balkan wars
    WW1
    WW2
.. and last year when they made firm promise to Serbia to vote on our side in the international court.. and then voted against us in the last moment…

All of the Backstabs above came from pretense of friendship…. In fact we have had more wars with Bulgaria than any other Nation including Croats,Albania even Germany ,Austria and Turkey.

… All that said… right now there is no thension with Serbia and Bulgaria.. apart the above mentioned case in international court. Bulgaria – FYROM… is a whole another matter… but this time around people in Serbia do not give a damn what happens to FYROM… and rightfully so. We got our own problems.

So in short, while in the past Kingdoms of Serbia/Kingdoms of Yugoslavia, and SFRJ (Tito) always kept a worrying aye on Bulgaria, (with good reason) and always made sure that militarily we could counter them or preferably out match… right now they are non issue for us.. and we have no need to “match them”… or anybody in the region… bar maybe Croats.

So designers at Sukohi , who clearly have less know how than few forum amateurs… went to all that trouble to create incredibly well designed frontal stealth geometry …. and then left engine intake completly exposed

Its akin to Ferrari designing modern F1 car … and forgeting to put wheels on it. But then again some people believe Adam and Eve rode on t-Rex 5000 years ago, or that NASA faked moon landing… such people are best ignored…..:D:D:D:D:D

    Gripen would be ideal, provided uncle does not put any obstacle to its export. OTOH, the other obvious reason for Serbia not getting it, is Croatia getting it, especially Croatia getting it first. Saab would be thrilled to sell to both sides of course, but not the Serbs;

Since joining NATO Croats seem to be giving up on concept of combat aviation , an opinion not without its supporters in Serbia as well.

MiG-35 (or a variant of it) will be good. I am sure the Russians will make a special price for them.

Yes, you got some perfectly good points ther. About the missiles though, i dont think it wouldn bee to hard to convert Gripen for Israeli and South African missiles. The engine is trickier though. But Serbia actually has a great force of skilled engineers and scientists, so with som luck (and covert assistance) it schouldnt be totally impossible for them to reverse engineer it. Serbs are pretty clever people. (And if that fails, se what Russia, China and France has to offer).

… Even at the height of Yugoslav airospace industry.. Engines were always imported or build under licence. If Sweeden could not develop indigenous engine… well need i say more.

Personally I do not think Americans would bother blocking sale of dozen Gripens to Serbia… but they would not allow any advanced avionics or missiles.

Another very interesting comment from the site above

“Use the money to “purchase” 20-24 US Senators … far more beneficial for our seccurity” hahaha cant say i do not agree.

Comments on the news site listed make very interesting reading… Most people are against the idea, and seem to prefer purchasing small amount (6-8) of cheep light jets like JF17 or second hand gripen, only sufficient for Serbia to fullfill its international obligations for control of airspace.. most people want money spent on Air Deffence… i guess they remember last decade.

Few funny comments as well … i quote

“We need to build then new fortified hangars… so we can hide them next time we get bombed” 😀

“24??? 240 more like… considering how loaded with cash we are” 😀

    my favorite

“Aircraft???… Nooo…we need to be purchasing new Destroyers , frigates and aircraft carriers….and send them up and down Danube..”:D:D:D:D

Nopse, Gripen is what Serbia needs, (Any US equipbent schould be outof the question). And given our countries rather good/good relations Im sure a fair price could be negotiated. Throw in two or thre SAAB-EriEye and Serbia can once again dominate the Balcans (save Greece. Wich is an allie anyway). 🙂

Gripen is designed by Sweden, whose defense strategy and position is very simmilar to Serbia. Deffending against large adversary, against huge numbers, rugged, take off from roads etc,,, all things Serbia would value.

… However Gripen sale can be blocked by US at a whim… and Serbia would have to rely on Western AAMs … I do not see Aim120 or Meteor ever allowed into Serbia. MBDA MICA is about advanced as Serbia has hope of getting in terms of BVR.

Sincerely, in their place I`d ditch western types altogether and pick the Chinese FC-1 or even better, the J-10. A 72-100 aircraft fleet of the J-10 ought to cost as much as a much smaller number of western fighters…. This would at the same time pack a major “punch” with the consequent regional geopolitical clout.

    What do you think?

    regards

    Hammer

    72-100??? Why??

J-10b will cost as much as Gripen or MiG29K

Meh… there is no money to “purchase” anything.. They have been issuing RFIs isnce 2004… If they could lease dozen unused Fulcrums like those X Algerian SMTs, or some second hand Gripens/Falcons … it would be a minor miracle.

On a more strategic note, spending billion $ on 20-24 aircraft , that would get swatted down like flies in any confrontation with NATO (as we are now 100% surrounded by NATO members ) is utterly pointless. Far better option is to get 10-12 JF17 of the type Pakistan is getting with western equipment. Heck FA50 would be ideal if S.Koerans ever get it developed.

10-12 JF17 would cost less then 5-6 Gripens/MiGs and offer not that much less in capability. SrAF would have “new” AC for maintaining training and tradition over next decade or so, after which they might decide if economic recovery occurs , to expand that capability with more worthwhile articles. Patrolling the sky and training pilots is something that JF17 will do just fine.

Now the remaining 80% of that billion dollars you divide and purchase 10-15 batteries of BUK 2ME, and 15-20 Batteries of SPYDER … and then you have something to seriously worry anybody intruding into your airspace… Which is precisely why our American overlords would never let their puppets in Belgrade contemplate such silly idea. Much better to spend money you dont have, on aircraft you dont need , for achieving squat all in defense capability.

And S-H-I-T stands for Stealth Harmonized Integrated Technology.

Seriously, many companies love to play with these abreviations. These things do not add credibility to their claims.

You have let the cat out of the bag… China will now attempt to buy S-H-I-T tech from abroad… Indians will claim LCA has fully integrated S-H-I-T because it has most composites.. and LM fanbois will say that LM invented S-H-I-T and that rest of the world is two decade behind… LM will then ask for 10 more billion dollars from partner nations, to fully develop “S-H-1-T ” for f35.

Also all the odds and sods about who sighted the islands first or who had a settlement or a claim there a hundred and fifty plus years ago are utterly irrelevant given that there is a long standing population on the islands. The history of the origins of a population, regardless of their origins, has no relevance to their democratic right to self determination.

    Kurdistan
    Basque
    N.Ireland
    Scotland
    Wales
    Republika Srpska
Parst of Greece close to Albania
    Parts of Macedonia
    Srpska Krajina
    S.Osetia
    Abkhasia
    Crimea

These are just few of many places i could think of in 10 seconds where UK govt would/was staunchly opposed to “democratic right of self determination”… some of the reason cited would be the same arguments Argies are using to lay claim to Falklands.

Seems to be “democratic right to self determination” only appliacable on case by case basis when Major Powers are concearned… just like support for democracy is on case by case basis.. sometimes cruel Dictatorship is of more … economic+strategic interest… Hypocrites

    This thread WAS quite interesting………………..

Lies.. This thread just like ” Falklands War 2009″ and “Falklands 2004” was dull and uninteresting.. Where as “Falklands 2001” and “Falklands 2003-4” threads were very good innovative and full of intelligent debates.

We can only hope “Falklands War 2011” thread is a much more constructive affair. 😉

Honestly… if you are going to engage in such activity talk to local Authorities. Many countries have laws that permit you taking as many photos as you want from public space, providing you do not enter restricted area. On the other hand in some like India it is illegal to photograph government buildings..so it is not hard to extrapolate what they think about snaps of military hardware.

That said i hope they get released with a warning… maybe smack behind the ears few times. 😮
