… what have I done… :eek::eek::eek:
I don’t see why more Supers aren’t simply bought and cancel the F-35C?
It seems the least important of the 3x F-35 models to me, particularly with USN already focused on X-47 UCAV programs for LO penetrating and long-ranged strike capability.
I would add that cancelling the F-35C will allow for greater engineering effort, free up project management capabilities and development funding to then be utilised on the more challenging -B variant and allow the production facilities to streamline onto only 2 models and build these quicker than they could have built 3x separate models and replace legacy aircraft sooner, saving a bundle of cash in the process?
USN can get some -B models to fly off their carriers to provide a less than optimal but better than nothing VLO fighter capability and maintain complete commonality with USMC.
USN would then operate larger numbers of Supers and Growlers, with a defined upgrade path to keep them relevant in future years. In times of financial strife, the USN could easily make do with a bit less range and a bit less ordnance (though still plenty of each) from it’s new fighter. All the other capabilities will be the same…
So whats the salary these days for a Boeing sales rep??? 😉
Yiss. But Aussies, Kiwis, they’re the same, aren’t they? Live down under. Reliably good at cricket, less reliably good at Rugby, inclined to whinge and then accuse others of whingeing?
As long as you do not lump Natives in the same group (they rightfully get upset) then yes.. Aussies and Kiwies are all the same… they are English :diablo:
Offensive national stereotypes aside, the present Queen is still head of state in all sorts of places, including the land of whingeing, culture-less antipodean boozehounds, crims and sheep worriers…….. :p
How dare you sir, I shall have to inform you that we have exported all our “sheep worriers” to a god forsaken islands about 1000 miles off eastern seaboard. :D:D:D
England –> Great Britain –> United Kingdom.
Fairly sure they’ve been the United Kingdom for 200 years, and Great Britain for a long time before that.
You are 100% correct , as I am when I state that in 80% of the world UK is still referred to as “England”. Even here in Australia “term” England in very commonly used when referring to UK. Hence no need to snap at people, after all he did not refer to UK with some derogatery term.. like “fuzzy wuzzies” 😉
Jackboots? They don’t look German to me.
It was a turn of phrase.. and i was referring to Monarchy rather than nation… non the less google “House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha” and see “current members” 😀
PS: Now i better let go of this argument before thread is derailed and Arthur starts swinging “Ban-Bat”. 😮
I also have a sneaky hunch that America tacitly supports procurement from Serbia if it helps normalise Serbian industry by bringing in hard currency.
Possibly. Serbian military complex produces sort of equipment that are favorites amongst various guerilas and rebels that CIA has supported in the past. With likes of Romania , Bulgaria and Checz Rep. with in EU and obliged by EU export regulations, Israel and Ukraine “too hot”.. USA would be hard pressed to find too many source of arms it can supply to various interests at “hands off” method that is fully deniable. 😎
Obviously the rest of the United Kingdom won’t have a say in the matter…
Most of the world still refers to UK as “England”, … a consequence of governing English monarchy , under whose jackboot most of the world was at one point. I would suggest you do not get “snappy” about this common substitution.
Having spoken with machinist at UTVA, he is gob smacked that Iraq is paying for these… According to him investment into UTVA facility has been fat zero over last 10 years, with directors and workers having to “scrounge” in every way possible just to keep it running. Hopefully some of that 230 million will go to facility and not for “Strategic Transportation invenstments for substancial increase in governmental efficiency”… or in simpler terms.. new ministerial BMWs.
Most logical and cost effective way in my view would be to secretly procure some cruise missiles with range of 300-500Km depending whether you base them on mainland or isla el Madosa (spelling?). I mean for the cost of a single flanker you can procure what 20-30 C-802s. I go for Chinese here for two reason, they have cheap yet relatively accurate gear, designed in mind for purpose of retaking a “rebelious” island :D. And 2. their willingness to sell anything and keep transactions secret. Plus traditional hatred for British can not hurt.
Anyway with cruise missile that has CEP of say 100m (i would think C802 is capable of that if set by GPS or GLONAS) , and lets say that 50% of fired ordinates reach target and achiever that 100m CEP , how many of them equipped with high explosive bunker buster type warheads would it take to turn a single airfield into plowed farmland??? Say they procure 100 missles.. if 50 hit that airfield will be rendered inoperable.. and any tiffies that get air born will have to ditch… after that even your Skyhawks can get over and provide aircover for landing units.
Another advantage of Cruise missiles is that you can procure them relatively secretly providing seller keeps them mouth shut. They can arrive on civilian airliners if need be or hidden in cargo. You can train units to operate them with in days, and hide/camoflage launchers with relative ease.
PS: This all ofcourse is just an imaginative “what if game”. I do not for one moment think that any conflict is likely.
Edit: Reading this book made think about above

All claims to Antarctic Shelf are boloney.. Japan has (rightly) ignored Australian argument that they are hunting whales in territorial waters.. and as much as ALL land claims to continental shelf are boloney , claims by French, Russians, Americans, British and other NORTHERN hemisphere nations are boloney^2.
Should say Chinese one day decide to construct large facility somewhere on the shelf, there is no legal or any other justifiable method of preventing them.
Falklands are different mater since there is significant population there, a population that should be able to determine for it self in democratic way, whether or not it wishes to be part of Argentina , UK or self governed. Should oil and gas be found off shore, third option would be the best. Declare independence so your profits are not going to her Majesty, sell you drilling rights to say… Americans.. invite USN to open a base with few token personnel stationed there .. that should keep Argies at bay. As much as they got trounced by Brits, messing with Uncle Sam is a much more terrifying concept.
Finally people of Falklands could invite Saudis and Kuwaities to tech them how to live obscenely and irresponisbly of oil money without any thought of future beyond horizon.. screw Norwegians and their inteligent monetary policy 😀
Do you even know what I’m talking about?
I often wonder do you….
Either Russia or China.. depending on how you classify “variations of aircraft” as new types or different model of same type… ie Su27 and su30 ro Su30 and J11 etc
Argys are atleast 50% in worse of position in terms of capability then they were in 1982.. and we all know how that fared. If their economy was not in such dire crapper, we could perhaps debate how squadron or two of su30s (or Mirage 2000s) could change situation..
Putin should learn to keep his shirt on & his mouth shut
.. hunting Siberian Tigers with shirt on… is so unmanly…. :D:D:D
Deliveries for 2015 were stated as the target for last 4-5 years… so how can this be a “delay”??? In fact if they manage to introduce it to service ONLY 5 years after first flight it would be a major coup for Sukhoi… especially as f35 has not a chance in hell of entering production before 2015 😀
