    ACH

Yes, Dutch’s frigates, 2 M’s and 2 L’s and before an Type 22 (ex HMS Sheffield now ACH Williams) but the ACH (Armada de Chile) needs about 3 more ships for its combat fleet, so the British offer for 3 Type 23 class frigates for about 180 US$ million it’s a great deal. Chile needs to replace its older County class destroyers and Leander class frigates that are upgraded with state of the art equipment but have 30 years of service.

    PANTERA

Note the Chilean Mirage is not a Pantera yet (it’s 1994), but a classic Mirage 50 (soon would be converted, though)

Brade, the “classic” Mirage 50 doesn’t have canards and refuel probe ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    Fach’s Phalcon/condor

Hi guys, the Fach’s PHALCON/CONDOR is full operative. But of course tha Fach needs another one (at least) or maybe the Gulfstreem option. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Cheers

    Scorpene

@Srbin: the whole deal, including weapons, tech support and all the usual stuff, will cost about 1000 million euros. The Scorpene offer was also very close ( but I think a little more expensive).
    Pricey…

    Regards

Just as a note, the Germans NEVER offered the U-214 to the Chilean Navy (ACH) just the 209.

Heres a picture of the first Scorpene for the ACH (O’Higgins)

    Derby BVR Missiles

The Chilean Air Force (FACH) is continuing the integration of Python5 and Derby (BVR) missiles in its F-5 Tigre (Tiger) III Plus Fleet, all this is confirming the Fach’s intention to convert the Derby Missile in the Standard BVR of the Fighter Fleet considering that this missile will equip the new F-16 C Block 50+ “Peace Pumas”.

    Cheers

    Aew

The Israelis are developing some AEW planes based on Gulfstream Jets. This one looks like the best choice to Chile, if they donยดt want to use Embraer + Erieye.

Those 707ยดs are quite expensive to operate.

Yes, The Gulfstream option is considerated by the Fach as a Condor’s complement but there’s no official news about this.

I don’t think so A-29 ๐Ÿ™ , i really don’t know the cost of produce another Phalcon Conversion but it must be very costly……

By another way, officially the FACH has not been pronounced about to replace the “deltas” with extra F-16 Block 30 ?? but it’s clear that to maintain in flight the Mirage fleet is every day costly, in fact, the hour of flight of a mirage is 3 times but expensive that that of a f-16 Block 50, for this, the natural tendence must be to incorporate more “Falcons” for maintain a common logistic and manteinance services at lower cost and adopt the israeli experience with the Falcons in avionics and weapons integrations.

    Erieye

Wolf, why not move to an erieye equiped one. Is definitely less expensive so you can have more, and, for a country of the size of Chile, i think two or three is more than enough, donยดt you think? You mentioned replacing the fighter fleet. Is there plans to replace the Mirage fleet? (Panteras and Elkans). As far as I know the F-16s will replace the A-37s.
By the way the new FAB F-X is more political then technical. I personally prefer the Flanker, definitely, but, iยดm start thinking that buy a used, and lot cheaper, fighter is a better idea. In this case i vote for the F-16AM/BM that the Dutch AF are retiring from service. Will be 29 examples available for sale (they are downsizing their fighter squadrons).

    Regards,

Hi A-29, in fact the Erieye System was evaluated in Chile together with the JAS 39 Gripen (My favorite ๐Ÿ™ ) but at the end Fachs is still considering more Phalcon or Israeli made Phalcon derivates, but one thing is clear, FACH need minimun one more AEW.

    Best Regards

    Aew

Hi A-29, The Fach AEW Phalcon/Condor is operational, and its operational costs are assumed by FACH’s own operational resources, in fact, the Fach needs another one but founds priorize the replacement of the fighter fleet, remember that another AEW Phalcon is very very expansive, may be that’s why you hear that is not operational, just for manteinance periods of the B707 cell ๐Ÿ˜‰

By the way, i hope that FAB can choose the best fighter for upgrading your Fighter’s Fleet. What is your favorite one A-29?

    Best regards.

wolf, have a look at this thread (above), after that, i’d like your opinion.
another point, the f-16 fach, is only on paper as well, “is only on your mind” :p , nice “computer generated” image of the f-16 fach, by the way, and another, chile has 1 phalcon system, while Brasil has…4 already? and i believe a few more comming? (A-29 please correct me if i’m wrong ๐Ÿ™‚ ) and another, fach only has 3 f-5 derby capable (to date), and last but not least, FAB has chosen already twice the Su-30 (o 35?) and its the politicians the ones making the whole thing last longer than a snake’s fart, so FAB is not unhappy with that machine on the contrary that’s what FAB wants. ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Camaro.

Hi Camaro (great car) i read the thread and the discussion is about the insatisfaction about the Synthetic aperture mode on the APG v/s Elta, i agree with that, actually the Fach has installed Elta radars on the F5 Tigre III Fleet but the US goverment obviously is protecting its industries, in this point is remarkable again that the Fach’s Pumas will be the first Falcons adapted from factory to carry the Python4, Python 5 and Derby Missiles from Israel.

About the AEW Phalcons, Brasil don’t have, they have Erieye Systems, for the protection of the Amazonas program. I think that you know the diferences between both systems don’t you ?

About the Computer Generated Image, that’s right, Peace Pumas are under construction at LMTAS, but they are the same as the Greek B50+, the next pictures show the first sections of the Peace Pumas and one Greek B50+ Finished, LMTAS says that the first Peace Puma could flight on August and came to Fach at begining 2005 all brand new, and that it is a luxury that one must emphasize ๐Ÿ˜‰
