Rolls Royce Mk19.
Im 99% certain it was the Rolls Royce Mk19. I saw it over Shipley Park as I was doing my evening run, it stopped me in my tracks! It appeared to head off in the direction of Hucknall (it is due to appear at the Hucknall Airday on the 23rd, as are Hurricane R4118 and PA474, last years display was excellent). It appeared again heading back towards Heanor about five minutes later. It made the mundane far more interesting!
Many thanks for the response, I just wish I had been given the opportunity to go. Some you win, some you lose…..We must make sure that we value what we have now, for it may not be here next time around.

Forgive me if this is a ridiculous question, but may circumstances change in the future and thus allow Mildenhall to stage another show?

Great photos, I’ve just invested in a new camera (EOS 400D) and 70-300mm lens, its great to know that this sort of image is now within my reach. Cant wait to get started!
All the best,

Fighter Aces
I went to see Ken Lee at his house in Sheffield last year, a true gentleman and daft as this may sound, my personal hero. He took me through his entire career, from joining up, fighting in the battles of France, Britain and Greece and North Africa, all the way through to his time in a POW camp. As before, a true gentlemen. It was great to get the experiences from the man himself, beats reading about it every time.
Ive been lucky enough to meet almost 30 Battle of Britain pilots, something that I am very grateful for. Another highlight was meeting 5 Doolittle Raiders at Duxford last year, though that was a very short encounter.
I’m a very lucky boy indeed….

I didnt see the Stirling either, the Canon Step Ladder Display Team were performing for most of the show…(apologies, couldnt resist!). I believe I also missed the 3 crated Indian Spitfires that were there….(apologies again)…
I must have had my Bino’s on the wrong way round then….
I have it on an FDC at home, will check it out tonight. Pretty sure that its his.
Dean.
How about the Zero that never appeared last year? Just ‘cos its on the poster don’t mean its gonna be there….

Hi Mike, the centre bottom signature looks very much like that of Harry Broadhurst.

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I once heard that the Anson competed with the DH Rapide for the contract. Is this correct? I was once told that during one wartime christmas celebration one pilot managed to loop an Anson. Surely not possible?
Best wishes,
Dean
I thought Travis were pretty good back in the day….
Try ‘So Few’ by David Masters, there is an entire chapter devoted to the Coastal Command Moths.

I would have to go for an airworthy Beaufighter, a true beast of an aircraft that gave the RAF a decent night fighter and did tremendous work with the coastal strike wings. So come on Mr Grey, chop chop….
