Assuming that at least one of the people posting on this thread is one of ‘the thirteen’ behind the ‘People’s Mosquito’, I’d be most grateful if they could answer the questions that I posed some time ago. I would contact ‘the thirteen’, to ask my questions, if not for the fact that, on the website, their e-mail addresses are incomplete and do not provide hyperlinks.

Mon dieu sorry old chap had a few things to organise & we dont have the early warning radars up & running just yet for all the Flypast postings! Been a tad busy organising this thing we set alight a few days ago you see!

Anyway if you had checked through the postings I made you could have DM me your queries? Also the link to contact us on the site is working & we have had some great praise & support from fans to professionals.

Send me a DM so I can try to alleviate some of your angst. Please note I cannot answer everything due to ‘need to know’ & all that

Guys thanks for all the debate; points of view, arguments etc.

You may hate me for saying this but you are living one of the principles of the project – enthusiasts (well it is Christmas so come on!) like us are working this through! All the problems, the challenges, the negatives. Live on line as well for us at Peoples Mosquito!

John Green I would be honoured if you contacted me privately to share your experiences.

Please call us mad but please dont call us for having a go! I leave you with a quote from Air Marshall Sir Ivor Broom when asked to bomb a very difficult target in his Mossie ‘its impossible; but this is RAF Bomber Command so give us 24 hours to do the impossible’!

    Good night all.

Well gentlemen as it is often said ‘you cant please everyone’! Thanks for all the feedback and comments – ALL of it drives us forward!

One of the projects aims is also to be open & accessible as much as possible; so in this spirit I will update this forum with progress or requests for help periodically.

If you would like to help please contact me privately as I am hoping there is at least one member of this forum willing & charitable to put us in contact with the right ‘connections’ to support this! People that can help museums or current airframe owners to be part of the Peoples Mosquito.

Since my last post we have had some great advice & offers of help for getting this up & running. To those out there that contacted me a BIG 😀

Hi Canuck – Victoria one was due to fly in 2010 but has slowed down; but plenty of info on their website. Lucky for you plans are to keep her in Canada!

The Windsor has made slow, slow & slow progress!

Good afternoon its good to see the PR machine via modern multi-media is working! People are talking, debating and actually providing answers here.

I am the man with the idea; yes it’s only an idea, yes it is true we have no airframe, no money, no home and no project team fully up & running! To some this approach will not sit well. So why this way?

Because it is a Peoples Project; a project run for and with enthusiasts whether hands on, hands off, armchair support or mucking in! As it is a Peoples project it is going to be funded by the people, yes with donations. After all XH558 has survived purely on millions of pounds lovingly given, so why not a Mosquito! And one based in the UK! Re-built in Britain is our aim with full access via multi-media.

About 4 days ago I posted the idea on Twitter and now we have a web site, facebook page, PR, a growing list of volunteers, offers of genuine industry help.

So from nothing in 4 days a project plan to please the process minded will be taking shape, as will charitable status and the core team developing.

What can be done in another 4 days? 4 weeks? I know from my ‘dipping of the toe’ into this industry it can be hard, savage and nasty but did the people walk away in May 1940?

That is the reason we launched this. Any questions please email us via the web site.

When are we going to stop handing money out hand over fist to a project that has limited life?

Please I love the Vulcan, admire the restoration but is it time to divert funds into a ‘Squadron’ of Warbirds?

    Just a thought!

I would say both were NOT clipped wing due to introduction was later in the war for low level fighter / ground attack.

Great to see the Stirlimg Project is still going! I remember when you guys visited us at Duxford when we were restoring the interior of the Shorts Sunderland. I recall the pilot & co-pliots seats plus many other cockpit items were shared or very similar between the 2 airframes! We also liaised on Fraser Nash gun turret manuals if I recall.

Where are you going to be based in the new year?

Just to remind you of another PT-19 flying in Norway.
I took these photos of Fairchild PT-19A Cornell LN-BIF last Monday and if it hasn’t snagged since then, it’s very much airworthy.. 🙂
The occation for this flight was to mark the 70th anniversary of Fornebu airport, Oslo (closed since the opening of Gardermoen airport, Oslo in 1998).

Anyway, it’s not bad being one of only two airworthy in Europe,..!

    Happy flying!

Glad to be proved wrong on this occasion Wingnut. We heard your Norwegian friends aircraft had gone unserviceable. But great photos and very pleased to see her flying. We will amend to the ‘UK’s only airworthy PT-19’.

    🙂

    Hello All

All the comments of the CAA paperchase are very true; however what I am led to believe is slowing progress is the fact that there is a recession on and the owner’s main business interests are a factor. Therefore, as the economy rides this storm I expect the 190 will fly. But here or the US? Or another owner? After all several other historic airframes were sold by the owner due to the major economic downturn!

Time will tell. Good luck to him is my message and we should all hope, and where possible support, the aircraft currently ‘stabled’ at Duxford remain to be operated successfully.

    🙂

Yeah I got lucky it was a take-off of all the Mustangs and I was standing off the centre of the grass strip near the fuel area and just pointed with very little zoom and pressed the shutter!
