Thanks Octane for the updates; please keep them coming.
What a project! What a set of professional aviators! I hope the IWM realise that whatever day these ‘birds’ arrive they may have a crowd to manage.
Whatever it will be a great and emotional day.
Amazingly no one has said the Mosquito; either FB.6 or B.35
I have a list:
Fw190-A4 (naturally!)
Me110
Ju-87
Me410
Shorts Sunderland
Vickers Wellington
Bristol Beaufighter
Hawker Typhoon 1B
😀
Thanks for the advice.
Got a trip to Cosford this weekend and a Sunday volunteering at Duxford so hopefully will get a chance to shhot something.
Thanks again 🙂
Re: Tomcat at DX
Well there is a lot of space to prep another stand on the grass to the right of the F15; or better still in front of the glass on the hard stuff!
If the IWM was worried about corrosion then they would be mindful to remember these naval types were designed to live & breathe in the harsh waters of the world. I rather think a bit of english rain was not going to worry a ‘Tomcat’.
I rather think if it was DX which turned it down it was due to the fact ‘Airspace’ needs as much funding as possible to finish it. Afterall I understand they are a few quid off budget! Also all IWM restoration focus is on ‘commonwealth’ aircraft.
It would be great for the IWM to now crack on restoring the Shackleton or Victor which ironically have suffered years of the english weather; rather than a F14!:)
Had a senior moment; deleted the files as I had used up my allocated space on the forum and the original photos have disappeared!
Here they are again! The technical error was me! Hands up; egg on face & all that.
Hello James D
I can see the two thumbnails below my last post. Must be something wrong technically your end.
Either ‘eyes’ or ‘pc’!
Sorry could n’t resist; apologies.
I believe the Corsair sortied twice on the day. First time it was flown as I was informed by someone else in the know by a visiting French pilot (see 2nd series of photos) then by Stephen doing a display as I had left and packed the camera away.
See photos below; were the visitors in the rather nice ‘turbo prop’? Can anyone ‘id’ it for me?
Thanks Janie
I shot the Chipmunk as I thought it looked fabulous in the sun; and it was great to see one out of the usual red/white colours (no offence to other Chippie owners).
If the syndicate / owners want a full set of non edited photos either by email or cd please contact me.
Again great to see that Chipmunk and it looked great parked up next to all the other war birds!:)
Here you go Chipmunk fans!
Is that you Janie in the back seat? 😉
Here’s a few more. It was a busy day.
Thanks Colin
If you want the whole series of that take-off drop me an email and I will send them over. 😎
I can confirm it was in excellent ‘nick’ the day we took the ‘cannon’ out of the airframe ready for its journey back to the US. Not an easy task after a few years of grease & dirt doing its best to harden up all the fittings.
The fuselage from memory was coated in a clear gloss overall; which really helped it from the elements.
It should have gone many months before but the slot back in a C-5 was lost at Mildenhall and the aircraft has waited until now. 😉
Hello Zwit
Sorry no I am not Andy M and I do not know who he is? Sorry.
Hello Mike J
Thanks for the correction. My colleague at DX has to check the installed dehumidfiers located in the cockpit. We were doing a check (actually emptying the buckets!) in the summer and the humidity was like being sat in a hot sauna. I am pleased to say after moving inside the humdity has significantly decreased.
I would not recommend powering up any of the flaps at the moment though; the last time I looked at them ‘swiss cheese’ came to mind. However all is repairable and a good majority of the aircraft is not as bad as first appears.:o
Will it get some restoration?
When you consider the Victor (being the rare Mk.1 bomber converted to a tanker) has also gone ‘inside’ for the first time, probably ever at Duxford, I would have thought this may be the next priority project for the IWM.
After all we will have finshed the Hastings by early spring.
It will be interesting to see if the new ‘restoration’ part of the new ‘Airspace’ building will be used for this purpose.
I had problems after installing the new Internet Explorer 7 upgrade & new anti everything package. After setting up all the firewalls, cookies & permissions the website kept telling me it did not recognise my email address & to contact the ‘IT Police’ at Key.
It was easier to re-register as it was Xmas.
All ok since happy to say.
