ATC to female pilot: “Will you take an intermediate departure or do you want the full length?”
Female Pilot: “I always take the full length”
Manchester, a winter’s night in the early ’80s. Approach, to an inbound 1-11:-
“Speedbird 123 we’ve reports of light icing above FL50, severe icing below. Also turbulence, moderate to severe at all levels but particularly bad on final approach with windshear reported. Previous landing aircraft report loss and gain of airspeed in excess of 20 knots on final approach. Visibility is 1200 metres in hail showers. The runway is wet, braking action poor.”
There was a silence, before Speedbird replied:
“Roger all that. You forgot to mention the flak!”
BA 747 has just rolling out after landing at LL from an ILS approach.
TWR (trying to be helpful – of course): Just for information, you appeared to be slightly left of the centreline all the way down the approach.
BA (after a short pause): Yes that’s right, and my First Officer was slightly to the right of it.
A hot summer afternoon at LHR in the 70’s (or so I was told). Pan-Am 747 struggles off the end of 27R, pops an engine and starts dumping fuel.
ATC. I see you have a problem sir but you are not in a fuel dumping area and that’s Windsor Castle straight ahead.
Pan-AM. Son, do you have a phone?.
ATC. Yes.
Pan-AM. Well you call the lady and ask her if she wants the fuel or the whole airplane!
Hope you enjoy these
To clear a few things up….
The rear door of a cargo plane burst open over Congo, hurling dozens of soldiers, their wives and children to their deaths, while others survived by clinging to the aircraft as it returned to the airport, officials said Friday. There was confusion over the death toll. Two officials at the international airport said 129 people were feared dead. Later, a third official estimated the casualties were about one-half that, saying the exact figure may be difficult to determine because of an incomplete manifest. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity.
The plane, a Russian-built Ilyushin 76, lost its door at about 10,000 metres, roughly 45 minutes after takeoff Thursday night from Kinshasa, the capital of the central African country, said government spokesman, Kikaya Bin Karubi. Seven people were confirmed dead and military helicopters were searching the region for more casualties, the spokesman said. Karubi did not provide details but confirmed those who died had been “ejected from the plane.” People in Africa often travel on overcrowded, modified cargo planes that have few seats, leaving most passengers to cram in among belongings in the rear of the aircraft.
“They were traumatized,” said Kabamba Mbwebwe, a doctor who treated victims. “The door opened and the plane depressurized. Many were sucked out.” The flight crew managed to fly the plane back to the capital, where it could be seen the next day on the tarmac, missing a door. Nine survivors were treated for minor injuries and psychological trauma at Kinshasa General Hospital. It was not known how many people were on the plane or whether they had seats or seatbelts.
The privately owned plane apparently had been chartered to transport Congolese soldiers and their families from Kinshasa to the southeastern city Lubumbashi, a diamond centre. Soldiers regularly provide security in Congo cities, often traveling as a group between assignments. It was not immediately known why the door came open. The weather was clear. There was no suggestion of sabotage. The plane’s owner was not immediately identified. The logo reads: Ukrainian Cargo Airlines.

Hello,
Dont worry bout being new, I was new bout 3 weeks ago and everyone seems to be kind….. well most do lol
I agree with Comet, I like the new Sabena c/s, looks much better than the old
The new Gulf-Traveller doesnt want to be confussed or even compete with the ‘Low-frills stuff’ its going to be an all-economy full service subsidary. Basically its the same service as flying as an ecomomy passenger on a normal flight. If this is successful then it will offer the aircraft to other Gulf regions.
Flights will start on the 1st June and with an initail line up of 6 B767-300’s
Flights will also start going to Zanibar, Tanzania and another 2 destinations in India.
They will also start using some A320’s to fly to Egypt but this is for a trail period, I think its only going to be for the summer.
What can I say? you have to see it flying to get the proper appearance as the sun shines off the gold. I was at heathrow last night 7th May as a B767 took off empty to fly to Dublin to get the new c/s put on. Its great for the crew as they fly into Heathrow full, unload then with only the crew onboard fly to Dublin and the crew spend the time there.
“As of 20th April, Gulf Air (who else coming from my post?) announced that final preparations are underway to resume flights into Baghdad.”
“Following the de-escalation of hostilities in Iraq and the urgent humanitarian and redevelopment challenges now facing the country, we would like to start flights as soon as possible,” said James Hogan, President and Chief Executive of Gulf Air.
They also mention that they are desperate to re-unite the approx 6m familys living apart from the past 20 years together again.
“The Shanghai Yun-10 was a prototype Indigenous Airlines based on the B-707. It first flew in 1980, but was never intended for production.”
Sorry but the pic I could find wasnt any good.
Im going on our rugby tour on the 16th May and just had a look at Gatwick’s homepage to see what we will be starting the drinking ( I ment tour) on. We fly out at 6pm on a 735 and the c/s looks very good.
