I remember someone saying the ‘LCA going supersonic’ pic and producing the shock wave cloud around it might be a fake because the phenomenon did’nt occur at cloud level ? Well here’s a pic of an F-18 doing the same at cloud level.

Yantar Debt to be paid by Indian Navy

Yantar Baltic Shipyard, Kaliningrad, has pulled out of the bankruptcy once it sealed an amicable agreement and undertook to start principal debt’s settlement in 2008. In its payment plans, Yantar counts on the three-frigate order of India. The only problem is that even though Yantar has been called a principal contractor by Russia’s authorities, the actual contract with India hasn’t been sealed to-date.

Malaysian Su-30MKI Technicians to be trained in India

    —XX—

On the expertise needed to maintain and repair the Sukhoi planes, Poveshchenko said the Malaysian technicians would be taught in India.

“Russia has been training the Indian technicians and now the Indians can prepare the Malaysian technicians because the (Sukhoi) planes (used by India) are similar,” he said.

He explained that the Malaysian version of the Sukhoi differed from the Indian plane (the Su-30MKI) because the Israeli avionics in the Su-30MKI were replaced by those French-made.

“So Malaysia will have no Israeli components in its Sukhoi planes,” he added.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also the Defence Minister, presented a letter of intent to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) for the training of technicians from the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

Malaysia ordered 18 of the multi-role Su-30MKM fighter-bomber in 2003, which will be used in air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea roles.

Wonder when the MKM’s are expected to arrive in Malaysia ?

Israel to launch TechSAR on India’s PSLV

….In a Nov. 10 interview, a Ministry of Defense source estimated the PSLV launch cost at no more than $15 million, whereas the Shavit price tag ranges from $15 million to $20 million. The estimated 260-kilogram TechSAR is slated as the exclusive payload aboard the PSLV, which will be launched from the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Satish Dhawan Space Center on the nation’s southeastern coast. If all agreements are finalized in the coming months, as expected, IAI will ship the satellite to the Indian launch site by summer.

The Aerial Sniper : Emerging Indo-Russian R-172 BVRAAM cooperation

By early 2004 it became apparent that after successful joint-development of the BrahMos Anti-Ship Cruise Missile (ASCM), Indo-Russian scientists and defence manufacturers had again teamed up to resurrect the formidable Russian Novator R-172/Ks-172 (AAM-L) ultra-long-range BVRAAM (Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile) project that remained “temporarily frozen” because of paucity in funding. Russia’s NPO Novator’s proposed partner is slated to be India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This critical Indo-Russian partnership will make available much needed Indian investment, in addition to technical assistance especially in fields of micro-electronics and software. In Indian Air Force (IAF) service this formidable anti-AWACS (Airborne Warning & Control System) BVRAAM is to be carried by Su-30MKI air dominance fighters. Their future target appears to be the proposed Hawkeye 2000 or ERIEYE AEW & C platforms proposed for induction by the Pakistan Air Force and the A-50 “Mainstay” AWACS platforms of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army-Air Force (PLA-AF). The R-172 may also provide the basic design to be developed into a “lightweight” anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon – at least the potential remains. The Su-30MKI in this case serves as the launch platform at high altitude while missile guidance is provided from ground stations.

India’s air force ‘needs to grow’

    Excerpts……

….The Indian Air Force (IAF) says it has ambitious plans to modernise and upgrade its fleet.

IAF chief SP Tyagi told the BBC that, with the growth in India’s economy, there was a need for greater security in energy and economic areas. ….

….The air chief marshal said that given India’s economic growth, the need to protect trade routes would grow, increasing the demands placed on the IAF….

….He admitted that a few pilots wanted to quit the IAF and had applied to air headquarters in this regard. But their number was in single digits and not in hundreds, he said.

“Everybody knows the Indian aviation sector is booming and there’s a shortage of trained pilots. And the private sector offers 10 times the salary we offer.

“So obviously some of my boys would like to leave and I completely understand that,” he said. ….

Too bad even Yana Gupta is not indigenous. She is imported from Czechoslovakia. 😉

    Calm down.

Yikes ! a Czech living in India ?? And I thought TinWing said India had ‘Living Standards’ issues ? (He also claimed India had a negative growth rate some time back , so we’ll forgive him for being ignorant). Guess we’ll have to make do with Katrina then, now that Sallu bhai is in jail and all .

Meanwhile , in the real world…. : Russia and India for military cooperation in space

India and Russia are contemplating expansion of their cooperation in space by including military assistance in ‘Global Navigation Satellite System'(GLONASS), presently limited to civil cooperation, a Russian official said today.

“Presently the assistance is limited in civil areas. But talks are on to expand the canvas of the agreement by providing assistance to the Indian side by including military support to India,” Vladimir Romanov, Deputy Head of Science and Technology in Russian Embassy said on the sidelines of a seminar on Indo-Russian Space cooperation here.

He said India will be the only country to receive such an assistance from Russia which will help in guiding missiles
