    From AWST …..

    Deleted F-22 coments..

The tone of the conversations was sharpened by a still-unreleased report about the series of air combat training engagements earlier this year between Indian air force Su-30MKs and F-15Cs from Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; the latter were equipped with the U.S.’ newest long-range, high-definition radars.

Those who have read draft copies of the report say the Su-30MKs and F-15 pilots were seeing each other at the same time with their radars, but the Indian pilots were getting off the simulated first shot with their AA-10 Alamo missiles and often winning the long-range engagements. The Indian pilots also had more flight time in the previous year than the U.S. pilots, roughly 300 hr. compared with 250 hr., the pilot said.

In the early 80’s NATO was thinking of a way to attack the rear forces of the Warsaw Pact. This plan was called FOFA-Follow On Forces Attack. What do people here think of this plan ? Should NATO have wasted serious vital resources in attacking the Follow on forces ?

Article Related to FOFA – Thanks to Rudra

The only reason why India popped up in this conversation of obsession and “Russian and Chinese” aircraft is because someone insisted on interjecting India into the thread by virtue of being a “peer competitor.”

India and China are peers in absolutely NOTHING (beyond population size.) They don’t trade much, their geopolitical interests are in entirely different parts of the world. And their products almost never compete and they most certainly DO NOT in the aviation world.

The FC-1 is not being sold in competition to anything from India. Neither was the J-7 before it. When a K-8 or Y-7 or Y-8 or Y-12 is sold today, it doesn’t compete against anything Indian. When the J-10 is thrown up for sale very shortly, it won’t either.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, it is, first and foremost, a bulwark and ally against the Soviet Union/Russia, not India. But beyond being an ally during the Cold War and beyond, it is considered a friend that transcends geo-politics.

If “India and China are peers in absolutely NOTHING (beyond population size.) ” was the case , then how and why did you interpret Groo’s “peer competitor.” to mean China

And as far as Pakistan is concerned , please do continue to use them as a bulwark against Russia but if you have’nt noticed ,the weapons that China sells them end up facing India. So even if the j-10 ,FC-1 doesn’t compete in the market ,it does compete in the air.

“”Srbin, he was talking about India’s “peer competitors.” That excludes China. The two are neither peers or even rivals.

Whatever the criticism on their projects, it’s done by the Indian themselves. It’s definitely not coming from the Chinese. In the Chinese boards, where there are no Indians, no one ever brings up the LCA, never mind criticism of it. “”

I dont care if anyone at the Chinese board’s discuss the LCA or not , but over here and other forums you will find Indians asking questions about Chinese products because inevitably some of them find their way to our western neighbour. And the products range from aircrafts to IRBM’s to nuclear weapons. It is the products which are likely to be delivered that attract the most attention . If you have a hard time when potential adversary aircaft’s are being compared ,you obiviously are in the wrong forum.

We should all start posting aircraft news in one thread dedicated to the aircraft. These single purpose threads for one picture or one piece of news are really inefficient and makes finding substantive information annoying. This has already been done with J-10 (de facto, the mass production bit in the title isn’t necessary) and FC-1 (again, the 03 prototype bit in the title isn’t necessary). PAK FA posts should be put in the PAK FA thread I made. A JSF thread should be made. An F-22 thread etc, as the need arises. It’ll clean up the board a lot.

We have Good Ole ACIG for that reason alone … Lets not bore ourselves to death here. 🙂
