Granted Pakistan’s resources are limited, but still — eight (probably used) F-16s isn’t much of a gesture. It would seem to speak more to the limitations of the relationship than its possibilities.

    The news says New.

Sell or donate? If sell than it depends on how much Pakistan can afford. Might be a good buy if this leads to Aim9-X and SABR. Any info on whether its Block 52 or F16V?

Well either way, the Ukrainians had both versions in operation and they’re no stranger to shooting down civilian airliners, even in peace time. They’re also the only party that benefited politically from the shoot down and hence the only party likely to have done in deliberately. So any criminal investigation would have to focus on them.

But this time geopolitics has raised its ugly head and the lives lost were Western Europeans, which are worth more than other lives:rolleyes:, so there’s a major stromp about it.

Why would the Ukrainians need a high altitude air defence system so close to the front line given Rebels didn’t have any air capability at all? on the other hand rebels were shooting down jets with regular frequency.

Now that’s just showing off 🙂

Syria for Putin is all about the messaging. “Get rid of the sanctions or I can make things bad for you everywhere way worse than Kim Jong Un.” TLAMing Syria just says “I can do this in Europe too.”

To be fair in 2014 US Navy fired around 40 Tomahawks against the terrorists in Syria they don’t support. Putin is just saying I can do the same without leaving my home port.

Russian MoD now says that they have launched 26 cruise missile strikes from their warships in the Mediterranean, against targets 1500km into Syria.

What kind of missiles would that be? Kalibr?

From Caspian not Mediterranean. Must have flown over Iran and Iraq

Are you saying Pakistans Nuclear weapons and missile capability is based on Chinese designs ? That Pakistan was NOT capable of manufacturing the nukes and Ballistic missiles ?

IF what you allege is true, the J10 must be one remarkable fighter, that the Chinese gave away nuke and missile designs to Pakistan but NOT the fighter jet.

Don’t know why that’s news to you, the entire world have known about it for years. China also didn’t give Pakistanis J8, JH7 and multiple other aircrafts that doesn’t mean there is something special about these. Pakistan gets what they need and can afford. Just today both countries agreed on a $5billion deal for 8 submarines, most of this would be through soft loans and grants.

But so was the US administration – Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib and other rendition flights outside the US. So that’s a bit simplistic.

According to the US there were only 4 or 5 moderate rebels left anyway, so they can’t have hit all that many of them.

Nooo! how can you bring this uncomfortable truth to this discussion. US had been working hard to brush this under the carpet.

Ironic that while being accused of committing a War crime by bombing a MSF hospital in Kunduz US is winging about Russian bombing of “Moderate” terrorists. The West has truly lost the plot and the argument on this one.

The Chinese refused to sell even the J10A to Pakistan. iirc there were quite a few statements by highers up in PAf about 36 J10, then it was the B version and eventually it fizzled.
What makes you think China will offer J-11D !? Also TOT ?! 😀

If China allegedly provided Pakistan with design of a working nuclear warhead and full ToT on multiple ballistic missiles, including post separation attitude correction system what is the issue with selling some fighter jets?

Head choppers? I’m unaware of other major groups practicing that execution method besides ISIS? Same goes for gang wars which I don’t see being a major occurrence on the ground anymore (they seem to be forming alliances with occasional subduing of a smaller ideologically opposing group which is a standard occurrence in civil wars).

If I recall correctly IRA and many others did not chop heads but were still recognised as terrorists across the world. Someone bombing schools, hospitals and government facilities is a terrorist plain and simple, whether they are holding a US flag in their hands or not.

Its amazing that a country which lost 3000 people in a single terrorist atrocity is making distinctions between good terrorists and bad terrorists, forgetting that their one time good terrorists came back to shake their nation to its core.

there is zero chance of Pakistan buying su-35.its politically not doable and besides Pakistan has no money.there is no substance to this story.but if and when India does an Egypt on Russia then we can talk about this kind of deal.

If hundreds of RD93 engines, MI-17s and MI35s can be sold what political reason is there to not sell SU35s? Doesn’t US sell arms to both India and Pakistan?

I think Russians want to play the same game as US and gain economic and political advantages out of it. Things are changing very fast in that regions. Rostech was even negotiating to build a €2.5billion pipeline in Pakistan.

Both countries can benefit from this transaction, Pakistan can show US and China that it has “other options” similarly Russians can make India jealous by going out with someone else.

    Pakistani official confirms Su-35 talks

Does this indicate that PAF has decided (funding permitting) on acquiring a twin engine platform to hit Indian mainland through the Arabian sea and conduct long range maritime strikes?

You need dedicated wiring and a specialized control panel which enables you to arm the bomb, set the fuze for desired detonation type (airburst/impact) and perform emergency jettisoning. The whole arming sequence could be quite complicated nowadays, usually via encrypted datalink and/or via pre-defined set of passwords which you need to put in. Generally, the nuclear carrier pilot has no possibility to arm the bomb himself, without approval from outside.

Is Rafale coming with these capabilities or at least guarantees from French that they will help Indians in rigging theses planes for Nuclear delivery?

Specialised wiring, control panels, release mechanisms etc don’t look like a small modification. I would have thought given the Indian work share and manufacturing knowledge in MKI it would make more sense to include these capabilities in that platform than acquire a completely new off the shelf product and try to play around with that.

Hi … Vivek asked me an important question before the thread was cleaned up … on why the IAF never considered the F-35 since cost-wise, the IAF may be paying more for the Rafale ..

A key statement which has not been reported enough .. is that the IAF is acquiring the Rafale for strategic purposes … I think this is as clear an indicator as any that India now wants the Rafale to fulfill a nuclear strike role replacing other types.

I doubt whether the US would every allow the F-35 to be rigged for nuclear release.

I can also tell you that the F-35 had not even flown when the MMRCA process was well underway. In fact, I believe I am one of the first journalists to be allowed access to see the first prototype of the F-35 when I was doing a documentary based on my experiences of flying on the the F-16 in Utah … What an incredible sight. Looked straight out of Star Trek.

    Cheers.

Just out of interest what is different in a fighter geared for a nuclear delivery role? Why cant a normal fighter drop a nuclear bomb? what’s the difference between releasing a conventional or nuclear stand-off missile/bomb?

i watched the parade. The UAV/UCAVs are carried on back of the truck rather in flight past. it shows how unreliable are these unmanned aircraft for flight formations.

    Ya right!
