R-73 is IR guided. Maybe the F-16 pilot failed to deploy flares (for whatever reason) or the flares were ineffective.
perhaps, or maybe it didn’t happen at all. I’m just keeping an open mind here, happy to be proven wrong if there is any credible evidence out there.
Just an image update of the aim-120C. Not to **** anyone off.
“Wow! FIRST TIME in the world — Mig-21 shoots down an F-16! Great job Indian Air Force!” Air Vice Marshal Manmohan Bahadur tweeted, adding “Someone just asked me — if a MiG-21 has shot down an F-16, what happens to their bid for the IAF mega 114 fighter contract?”
So will this also effect India’s contracts with Lockheed Martin if India has this point of view?
Part of the Package included Mirage5s and JF17s with Russian engines. Will that result in India not buying French, Russian and American fighter jets?
The Pakistani F-16 was hit by a R-73 missile, according to media sources. Pakistani F-16’s should have on board jammers to jam incoming missiles. Any reason why it failed to jam the R -73?
Yes, because the jammer knew that if it stopped the missile, the loss of face for India would be unbearable. So a block 50 F16-D with faulty systems was used to go against a Mig-21.
Already the narrative being shaped is very negative for India. Consider the below from an Indian journalist.
“Consider this. India struck Pakistan in the middle of the night in what was a retaliatory action for the attack in Pulwama on 14 February in which more than 40 Indian troops were killed. Pakistan’s response was swift and audacious, striking India in broad daylight the next day.”

Indian twittrati are clutching straws, from posting videos of random sounds, clouds, testimony of random people and wreckage of their own downed fighter in a vain hope that the outside world would somehow believe their narrative that Pakistan didn’t escape unscathed from the attack.
How did they know it was an F16 ? In the dark?
Radar? Visual? In both cases there would be evidence. Radar or gun footage camera.
Also was this mig 21 flying solo? Without a wingman? His wingmans radar and camera doesn’t work too? And lastly who confirmed that the f16 was shot down and crashed? in dark? Through what means?
Mig21 wreckage was burning till the next morning, I’m sure f16 wouldn’t be too. Still no video or pictures from ground or air.
Too many questions and this looks like too good to be true. But exactly what India needs to save face.
I think India is desperate to hold on to this narrative, without anything to back it up. Just because the alternative is Pakiatan came in, attacked, shot down an aircraft and went back.
Indian claims are now laughable and tragic. Difficult to take them seriously.
Anyone can see the piece of wreckage they are pinning their hopes on in this video of crashed Mig-21.

Any more information about the exercise? what sort of missions were conducted etc?
For operational purposes it doesnt matter if they give full, half or no tech. What matters is whether you have it or not. British nuclear detterent is no less potent just because its based on American trident D5s.
Its in China’s interest to keep India engaged and they will provide the needful to Pakistan, as they have done previously in form of Nuclear, ballistic and cruise missile technology.
Also, when India does get a 5th gen fighter, Pakistan will beg borrow or do whatever to get its hands on whatever is available.
Are you living in cuckoo land? Project Azm? Fifth Gen fighter in PAF… really?
When was the last time that any institute or anyone in Pakistan designed a fourth Gen fighter or came close to designing one.
JF-17 as we all know has been designed from scratch in PRC by Chengdu. Pakistan’contribution in this project as far as R&D goes is a big zero. For starters, can you or any other Pakistani poster post a pic of a JF scale model undergoing tests in a wind tunnel in Pakistan?? Or can you provide a pic of an Iron bird type rig for testing out the flight control system and the control laws? The answer is again a big no.
Last time the great PAF couldn’t buy eight F-16 block 52 because Uncle Sam wouldn’t subsidise the sale and you guys have to pay the full 700 million dollars.
You guys couldn’t pay this paltry amount and now you are having wet dreams of having a fifth Gen jet in your inventory?Pitiful.
Russia will also sell S-500 and Su-57 to Pakistan, its BFF in Asia. You are really pretty entertaining.
They are taking baby steps from almost zero aerospace R&D infrastructure. No point in biting more than you can chew. Why reinvent the wheel when someone is happy to teach you. Has India learnt any ground breaking technologies in developing LCA? No.
India spent 35 years developing LCA and till now they have only inducted 9 fighters, even that with foreign engine, radar, weapons and more components.
So overall who has fared better in terms of adding capability to their AF? 9 LCA or 100 JF17s? Atleast Pakistan now has a proven aircraft development setup with China, which could be replicated for the next gen fighter. Regardless of Pakistani contribution.

Never read anything about test firing of C802 from JF17 before this exercise. C802 must have been operationalized a while back. Wonder what other weapons have already been integrated without any pics/videos on the internet.

Pakistan Successfully (Test-) Fires ‘Beyond Visual Range’ Missile from JF-17 Thunder (to test the instrumented weapon test range)

What ‘light fighter’ role can L-15 play? given there would be plenty of legacy Mig-21s or better fighters flying around in the neighbourhood. Perhaps just for policing duties.
It’s a no brainer that everyone will favour their own side, especially when it comes to defence matters. And it is entirely true that without Chinese help Pakistan would be in deep trouble, but equally on the other hand without Russian/foreign help Indians would be flying hand gliders.
Actually taking Russia and China out of the equation makes the situation a lot worse for India (42 Mirage 2000 and 95 Jaguars vs. 150 Mirage 3/5 and 76 F-16s)
