Not as far as i know.
I thought Indians require extensive demo flights in all conditions before placing orders. How will French meet all their requirements if they haven’t even tested it once in STOBAR.
Candidate? It certainly is. Winner? Another question.
Has Rafale even been tested in a STOBAR mission, other than simulation?
Indian Navy rejects Pakistan claim of pushing back its submarine, calls allegations ‘baseless’
So India’s 2 main rivals China and Pakistan were conducting joint naval exercises within Indian area or interest and Indian Navy chief says “there was no Indian submarine deployed in the area ” If true its even more concerning than just getting caught!
Who else in the region other than India operates U209s upgraded with photonic masts?
India assembles SU30 and Jaguar, produces LCA on its own and have just ordered Rafale. How can they not have the required number of fighter jets? That’s like starving while inside a McDonalds!
OK I will take a stab at that…
Certainly not a Nuclear submarine you can clearly see the Snorkel mast, design of the Snorkel is consistent with those fitted to German designed submarines. The periscope looks like an Airbus Defence & Space OMS-110 which is an optronics mast, Indian Navy Type 209/1500 Shishumar-class diesel-electric submarines were retrofitted with that very optronics mast recently.
http://www.airbusds-optronics.com/web/guest/sero_400_oms_110.html
The final mast looks like a VHF/UHF communication antenna of some kind.
So I would say an Indian Type-209/1500 Shishumar SSK recharging her batteries!
Then again i could be entirely wrong!
:very_drunk:
How long can Indian U209s stay submerged? and If they had to make a dash for it, roughly how long could they travel before having to snorkel?
First Russians tracking a Dutch Sub, Now Pakistan Navy finding a lurking Indian Sub. What’s going on with Subs these days?
The link says Nuclear, but don’t think you can tell whether it was Akula or not. Maybe someone familiar with the masts/periscope can tell from the footage.

saudi arabia will buy jf-17. china doesn’t care for sunni vs shiite war. they can get the jf-17 with russian engine. but i think really, they are buying it for egypt.
Really? why would you think so?
Egypt: Saudi Arabia halts fuel shipments indefinitely
“Egypt says Saudi Arabia has halted fuel shipments indefinitely in a sign of lingering tensions following a dispute over the conflict in Syria.”
Weird.. could they be pitchin ’em for someone else, like they did with Egyptian Mirages back in the 80s?
Relations with Egypt are at a historic low, so it cant be for them. Saudi’s do have a lot of Pakistani military personnel in the country and they wanted them to fight for them in the Yemen war, which Pakistanis refused.
It could be a deal to buy Pakistani weapons for use by Pakistani military in Yemen. Air operations are a low risk for Pakistan so it might be acceptable, however Russia remains an unknown factor.
Another day another “Interest”
Saudi Arabia planning procurement of JF-17 Thunder, Mashshaks, says Saudi air chief
Given the Russian engine and current Saudi – Russian relation re Syria, I would take this with a pinch of salt/vodka.
f-22 and PAK-FA, even more so at high altitude
Would the stealth types not be at a disadvantage due to the internal carriage of their weapon vs wingtip Aim-9X on F-16? Or can they handle 9g turns with weapon bays open?
Its flying performance is sedate so far , Perhaps the FBW Envelop is not fully open.
It doesnt appear like a Nibble Fighter so far and its too big and heavy may be in 45 T class
I don’t think the designers were asked for a fighter nimble enough to take on F-16 in a dog fight.
Having said that if it was to come to that which of the current stealth design would come out on top in a close in dog fight with a F-16 class fighter?
If anyone wants an interesting afternoon, just introduce either LCA or JF-17 as disappointing projects and see mass hysteria overtake the thread.
The Israelis had a strategy for dealing with the U.S. veto threat, the same strategy that has seen over a thousand of Rafael’s LITENING targeting pods produced for delivery worldwide: they had a U.S. partner. Export orders for the Lavi would have been fulfilled by a U.S.-based assembly line to be set up by Grumman Corp.
Grumman produced the composite wings and vertical tail for the Lavi, and had no jet fighter of its own in this same size class. The contract between IAI and Grumman, calling for a parallel U.S. assembly line was signed only months before the program was cancelled.
Forget about export orders to smaller air forces around the world. A Grumman/IAI Lavi would have been a threat to F-16 sales to the U.S. Air Force. The Lavi was intended from the beginning for the strike role. The F-16 was not. It would have made far more sense for the U.S. Air Force to procure a U.S.-made Lavi for the Wild Weasel role than to develop the F-16CJ.
How much realistic help could Israel had provided to Chinese aviation industry given they themselves had zero experience of producing a 3rd generation fighter, except few prototypes. Even their 2ng Gen designs were derivatives of Mirage series. Whatever the help if any, might be of no use at all in the end given a completely different airframe than Lavi. I understand all avionics are Chinese, Engine is Russian/Chinese and you cant use FBW system like plug and play without major modifications and testing.
Recent Super Mushshak sales:
100 – Turkey
10 – Nigeria
8 – Qatar
Is there even enough production capacity to fill these orders? What is the annual production rate?
