RE: Work Experience with British Midland
After applying to well over 15 companys for my work experience last year, including Leeds Bradford and Multiflight, I ended up at Newcastle Airport.
I spent one week with FLS Aerospace and the second week with British Airways Engineering.
My time with both companies was fantastic. With FLS we did the line checks on AIH’s based A320 (G-RDVE) and various other visiting A320s and A330s. We also covered JMC’s based B757 (G-FCLD). Obviously I was not qualified or old enough to perform some of the more detailed tasks but, such things as checking oil levels and performing walk around inspections was a daily occurence for me.
With BA it was a similar thing (except the onboard crew perfom their own walk arounds etc…) Basically checking with the Flight deck for any problems. I worked on various B737s, A319s and A320s all the LHR shuttles. I also got the oppertunity to sample how often Brymons Dash 8s brake down!
I also spent an afternoon with ATC in Radar and the cab…fantastic.
Best two weeks I’ve had so far!

RE: Up close and personal
Nice one. Yes we fail to realise how large those winglets are as we are always at a distance. Try comparing that to a person (walking around on the ground beneath.)!!

RE: BA jet stuck on Runway
sorry….just seen Sky news….It said the a/c was a B777…and they provided a picture of a rather dirty 6-wheeled bogey.
Cheers

RE: ITV’s ‘Airline’
£49.00 wasn’t it. Airtours…yes AIRTOURS…godd old AIRTOURS!!

RE: BA jet stuck on Runway
I didn’t half laugh when i saw this on the lunchtime news.
The news stated the BA a/c was actually a 767.

RE: ITV’s ‘Airline’
Yeh they got their money back and a 20 minute flight in a 737 around the south of England! can’t be bad!!!

RE: Sweets on take-off – a thing of the past?
Bhoy…You refreshed my memory! On JMC last year I revieved a piece of terry’s chocolate orange….this was with my meal though!
Has anybody noticed their ears tend to pop (or try and pop) more on departure or during descent?

RE: Air 2000 ‘holy’ flight!
The Pilot was unaware of the incident until the guy alerted him. I found it funny that he waited until the seat-belt sign was off!
I do think the press over did it a bit. Apparently some tread came lose from the tyre now and it would seem realistic that it took a panel out rather then making a puncture hole or ripping a spoiler off. The AMM spokesman did say it was a spoiler though.
If the tyre did explode surely the flight deck would be alerted to a tyre pressure situation—-yes, the lack of it! Ahhh yes, and if it was a spoiler that was missing then yes…what about the hydraulics…
I don’t think it was as serious as the papers described it and the only reason the cpt returned to SFD was because he didnt fancy making a pond crossing with whatever type of injury the aircraft had recieved!
Lovely touch ‘The Mail’, keep it up!

RE: world cup
This is a good idea. I still havn’t seen a full image of the BA B777.
Tony… do you know anything about aircraft expected at Manchester for the commonwealth games? Are there any plans to cover the unusual arrivals in AW? I know there is an Air New Zealand B744 expected…there should be many more aswell.

RE: Sweets on take-off – a thing of the past?
…interesting
RE: Worst C/S
Ohhhh…soo many.
I certainly agree with Aerflot, AF and LH.
I wasn’t keen on Air Europa’s old c/s. or Flying colours.
I have more…let me think and I will return…

RE: Disappointment to say the least
That sounds a bit pants. couple of years back (i think it was) was impressive with the A340 and the B767.
Sounds like the only thing that would lighten that weekend up would be a ride on the 737!

RE: Sweets on take-off – a thing of the past?
1997—AIH out of NCL. From what i can remember it was takeoff and landing both ways. (pieces of blackpool style rock)
None with AIH on 1999 and none in 2001 with JMC….tight buggers!!!
I remeber recieving mints on takeoff with Air 2000 years ago (that was back when they had the old livery though!)
Never got anything with sheduled carriers.
I take my own sweets anyway.

RE: your assistance is required
All i can think of (if i’ve interpreted your post correctly) is a flight from Milan into Stansted and then a train or coach connection. I’m unsure where exactly the guys are wanting to get to though.
I know there are Italian flights into Stansted (probably with FR)
