Nevertheless I had the opportunity to take a foto of Dornier 27 D-EDPR. The aircraft is still based in the historic hangar of the `Flugsportgruppe Mendig´ but will relocate to `Hangar 2´ very soon 😀
Today it was planned to fly Fouga Magister D-IFCC from Manching to Mendig. Fine weather conditions, many helping hands, fire-department on `stand by´, even the large hangar doors were already open >>>> and then a call from the ferry pilot that the flight had to be cancelled due to technical problems :(:(
Good luck to this new collection.
Do any Army aircraft remain on the base?
Alouette II 76+76 and CH-53G 84+56 were seen stored in June 2005 and don’t seem to have appeared anywhere else.
Andy
No Army helicopters at all (well – at the moment) 😀
Alouette II 76+76 is at Dresden Military Museum and CH-53 84+56 >>>> I do not know where it is now but since the army has left the airfield in 2007- I do not think they forgot any of their CH-53…..
Ah, I thought that T-33 was now at the Sammler & Hobbywelt museum.
Actually it was another T-33 cocpit section that is now at Sammler&Hobbywelt museum >>> was exchanged for some Fouga spares 😀
I believe the crashed T-33 has been sold to a new museum in Germany (without engine). There are already a few MS760 flying in France, but indeed great to see one in Germany!
Also great to see Claus’s old Fouga is in good hands!:D
Actually T-33 N132GB was listed on e-bay some weeks ago but thankfully the sell failed >>> so it´s still owned by Dirk and can be used in the new project.
Personnally I am very curious about Magister D-IFCC – having seen her many years ago at Berlin Air Show and never again >>> will post pics when she arrives at Mendig airfield.
Interesting collection, wonder why the belly landed tbird cant be rebuilt to fly??
Well, the Tbird surely can be rebuilt to fly again – but if you can afford another Tbird for (nearly) the same amount of money you have to spent for a proper rebuilding you better buy another machine >>>> and have a perfect polished static Tbird as spare aircraft 😀
Surely the most ambitious project at the moment will be an airworthy Lockheed T-33. Unfortunately Dirk Effelsberg´s T-33 N132BG belly landed after a sucessful display near Bitburg airport this may. The machine will not be flown again but ist a good source of spares for another airworthy T-33 that Dirk is acquiring at the moment.
All three jets will be operated in syndicates and according to Dirk several shares are still available.
At the moment there are two airworthy Puetzer Elster and also the prototype of that early fifties sport aircraft at Mendig airfield.
First aircraft was Morane-Saulnier MS.760 N751PJ. The historic jet arrived by truck from Den Helder (Holland) during September. Hopefully it will fly again before too long. Due to arrive from Manching airfield in southern Germany (weather permitting) is Fouga Magister D-IFCC.
Hi Matthias,
what is the machine in the backround of the Tiger-Moth >>> could it be Yak-3U F-AZIM??
Greetings
Stefan
So the question is will this be refurbished and restored or will it be a write off.
This is a slightly different case than the usual recovery and restoration stories.
Well, the answer is here: http://www.meiermotors.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=109%3Afocke-wulf-fw190-a8n-f-azzj&catid=25%3Aaircraft-&lang=de
The machine will be restored for a gentleman in Germany.
Well, hopefully in some years it will be a mixture of Duxford, Old Warden and Hangar 7 (Flying Bulls) :D:D
And here we have the reason why the http://www.quax-flieger.de group had so much aircraft & manpower at the event: This winter a new event-hangar will be finished at Paderborn airport. The building will house most of the Quax fleet and a restoration shop where visitors have the chance to see how old aircraft are being maintained & restored 😀
And certainly many interesting vintage machines from Cessna 195 to Stearman & Messerschmitt 108 Taifun
We had the privilege to have Desmond Penrose flying in our Klemm 35. Well, seems that the gentleman had some fun, too 🙂
