Obviously, an aircraft can takeoff on a long enough strip of relatively flat surface. So, the question is, what kind of surface is needed for prolonged operations? Does it have to be concrete surfaces? Any special treatments?
I would imagine that reinforment to sustain weight… evidently parts of the interstate system here is reinforced in that manner, to allow transport aircraft to land. I have never heard of here in the States being used but I am sure that i heard it was incoprated into the design when they were built in the 1950’s.
Actaully Swedens war bases (plan is call RB90) consist of large (30k by 30K) areas that encompass civil airports, highways, secondary roads, muntion depots etc. They do practice quite oftem from roads. War bases are highways! Here are some pics…
Used these pics in a PP on the SwAF, sorry i dont knwo where i got them.
This thread is disgusting, grow up kids. If you dont have something nice to say then dont say anything.
In active combat aircrafts it will be BUFF B-52
Daks are still very much active and I do recall a SOCOM one being used in Afghanistan… cant tell me that not a combat aircraft!
How about the Greek Daks? Are they still in service? I would imagine it is a Dak somewhere in the world tht holds that honor… (excluding of course memorial flights, but some Daks would be close regardless!)
I dont think the US does honor the service contract…. That why so few of them are still flying… search on here, i know someone was discussing it a few months ago.
Papa Lima
thanks for the info! The course my dept is sending me on is only to allow me basic interaction and reading/writing level. Nothing near fluency, though I will take class through the Swedish Consulate on my return. I did live there for 8 months or so (Stockholm) so I have a very basic knowledge… i.e jag vill har en ol (<– on American keyboard!)
Now that you mention it, I remember seeing pics (of models) in this sort of scheme.
The fuselage of the Crystal Lake Seafire is sorta that color!
F-16.
I believe that is a staged crash at Kirtland AFB NM. It is used at the USAF crash investagtion school.
TEEJ,
I also think 8 B-2’s and a B-1 were shot down.
Just had a little humor in there huh?
looks like an STi intercooler duct there on the hood… I have a WRX as well, though i must admit my steering wheel is on the correct side of the car!
Was that taken from a WRX?
