I have been researching the RAF history of the Cambridge Flying Group’s Tiger Moth G-AOEI (N6946).

The Operations Record Book for 510 Sq at Hendon records that, on 25th April 1943, F/O Ledesma flew ATC Middleton in Echo India on an Air Experience sortie for 25 minutes.

If anyone has photos of him during his wartime RAF service, they would make a welcome addition to the Cambridge Flying Group archive.

There is a small display of various items relating to the history of the aerodrome at the Aeroclub building, which is next to the restaurant, just behind the fuel pumps. When I was there in May, the display was on the wall to the right of the bar.

I just had a quick look at Discovery and it refers to a 50 Wing ORB for September ’39 – August ’40 under ref AIR 26/62. The record has not been digitised and so cannot be downloaded.

Friends of mine recently inspected the ORB for 51 Wing (the other BEF Lysander Wing) for May ’40 at Kew. It has lots of strategic information (eg about deployments of flights and squadrons) but, from memory, it does not list individual aircraft losses.

    Good luck.

It would be worth looking at the ORB for 50 Wing, if that survives.
