RE: Have a Read Of This
Sauron,
At least you are honourable enough to admit that you haven’t seen war in your lifetime. People who have been to war are much more sceptial about going to war; they have seen the carnage and despair firsthand.

Stormin’ Norman: Don’t rush into war
Former US Gulf War commander Norman Schwarzkopf has said a new war with Iraq has not yet been justified.
General Schwarzkopf, who became known as “Stormin’ Norman” during the 1991 Gulf War, called for United Nations weapons inspectors to be given more time to assess whether Iraq had any illegal weapons.
“I think it is very important for us to wait and see what the inspectors come up with, and hopefully they come up with something conclusive,” he said in an interview with the Washington Post.
Interviewed at his home in Tampa, Florida, the 68-year-old retired general said he would like “better information” before he supported an invasion of Iraq.
“The thought of Saddam Hussein with a sophisticated nuclear capability is a frightening thought,” he said.
“Now, having said that, I don’t know what intelligence the US Government has.”
‘Nervous’ about Rumsfeld
US President George Bush, speaking in his annual State of the Union address late on Tuesday, said he would present fresh evidence to the UN next week about Iraq’s weapons programme.
General Schwarzkopf praised his former comrade-in-arms, US Secretary of State Colin Powell, but said he was “somewhat nervous” about comments made by the Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld.
“When he makes his comments, it appears that he disregards the Army,” he was quoted as saying.
“He gives the perception when he’s on TV that he is the guy driving the train and everybody else better fall in line behind him – or else.”
General Schwarzkopf led US troops to victory in a UN-sanctioned allied military operation that followed Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
He served under President George Bush senior. At the time, Colin Powell was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and current Vice President ##### Cheney was defence secretary.
He remains close to the Bush family and campaigned in Florida with Mr Cheney during the 2000 presidential election, the Washington Post said.
RE: lonely planet
Absolutely. I have found Lonely Planet to be a great source of information. Definitely for the budget traveller.
I visited Egypt, Cambodia, and Laos using nothing more than Lonely Planet guides.

Of course who are we to question the likes of Gen.Norman Schawrzkopf, Gen.Anthony Zinni, Gen.Brent Snowcroft, Gen.Colin Powell, and Gen.Wesley Clark who have been advocating restraint. For all we know these gents concerns might be “propaganda” as well.
By the way, how many years did you serve in the military Sauron? Or are you a mythical character just like your namesake from Lord of the Rings?
I hope Scooter has some “war stories” for us as well.

Please spare us this nonsense
This forum has become reminiscent of a soap opera. Quite a few members; Pakistani, Glenn, Ja Worsley, Phantom II, and quite a few others made a big show and left; only to appear again.
Folks,
If you want to leave, then by all mean leave. If you want to stay, then stay. But for the love of god please spare us these “I am so upset, I am going to leave” threads, and make a big hoo-hah cry about it. This is an online discussion forum, no one knows each other here on a personal basis. Most of us are hidden behind our “handles” and may not appear to be who they advertise to be.
Stop wasting any more bandwith, next time anyone wants to leave; get the hell out, just spare us the emotional circus show.

RE: London – Prague flights
kev35,
Many thanks for your info. The only problem is Easyjet does not fly out of Birmingham. I suppose East Midlands is the closest but the fares are much cheaper from Stansted. I am trying to figure out if its worthwhile to spend money going all the way to London to catch a cheaper flight. Are there any trains I could take?
Ren Frew and A330crazy,
Many thanks for your replies.

RE: London – Prague flights
Many thanks for all the info. Easyjet/go.com seem to have the best fares. I will be staying with my sister in West Midlands/Royal Leamington Spa. Thus, which will be the most convenient airport to fly out to Prague from?

RE: Favourite Soviet Built Aircraft?
Quite a few people have ignorant of Russian aircraft/pilots. If you compare the statistics(Miles flown = accident rate) you will be surprised to find that Russian aircraft have one of the safest records. Also, I am not taking into issue the countless airlines that came about after the break up of the Soviet Union, rather airlines such as Aeroflot who had excellent maintenence records.

RE: Aeroflot’s ‘hammer & sickle’ is on the chopping block
Very sad. I am a big fan of Aeroflot. Out of all the airlines I’ve flown since ’86, I’ve logged the most miles on Aeroflot. All my flights from CMB to Europe and North America have been on Aeroflot. I am especially sad to see the ‘hammer & sickle’ being given the boot. From the very moment I stepped aboard a IL-62 for the very first time, I was hooked on this remarkable airline.
