Sorry for the delay in replying Aeropark – I’m still catching up from a ‘privileged night out’ at a private function at St Vincents in Grantham – so my 617 commemorations started slightly early, in what is still a very evocative location, albeit now a family residence again!

Thanks for the update re the Varsity Log from your uncle and I’m sure that the details will be well received. The photograph is interesting as well.

The RAF Topcliffe reference is intriguing; so far (to the best of my knowledge) it hasn’t shown up in other Log Books, although I believe that the photograph of WF369in the new Museum Guide Book may have been taken there!

We’ll arrange with you to get a copy of the entry for WF369 if we may and it can then be passed on to the researchers.

“Do you have Log Book entries on WF369?

As part of its policy of widening the recorded history of its exhibits the museum now has a couple of members who are starting to co-ordinate the recording of the flying hours for Vickers Varsity WF369.

WF369 has a diverse flying history having served at various times with the following RAF units:
201 Advanced Flying School – RAF Swinderby
No.1 Air Navigation School – RAF Hullavington
Air Engineers School – RAF Finningley
Air Electronics Operators School – RAF Finningley
No.6 Flying Training School – RAF Finningley

When WF369 touched down at Winthorpe on 1st April 1976 it was the aircraft’s 7,612th landing, with over 8,646 flying hours. Can you help fill in some of those training ops?”
