A few weeks ago I received some blurb from an advertising company, which related to the new set-up and several items that it contained worried me.

It is my personal opinion that the ‘writing’ could now be on the wall for the BBMF! 🙁

Following some slight confusion surrounding the museum’s 40th Anniversary Gala event and associated activities, these have all been relisted on the museum website as individual activities. :confused:

This includes the Gala Day itself; the ‘Favourite from 40’ photographic competition; and a free 40th Anniversary Trail for the youngsters.

Picking up on some feedback about these parts there is another date for the Aeroboot / Aerojumble diary – 12 October 2013 – Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble at NAM, inside Hangar 2 up to 48 tables.

This information is now going to press in the NAM 2013 leaflet – as an aside the advanced bookings for the summer sale that runs alongside Cockpit-Fest is looking really good. 🙂

I’ve spent a good part of the morning trying to get some issues with the signage on the Drove Lane road works resolved with the County Council – the museum is open, but it may not appear to be, as ever details in here!

Nice Viggen cockpit photographs – I wonder where those were taken; doesn’t the matt finish hold the dust?!? 😮

Also please don’t buy the FREE Notts Aviation booklets from the book seller in the Newark Antique Centre!!!! 😡

I may need to disappoint you bb – at the present time the Viggen (and the Draken) are both listed on the Cockpit Opener’s list as ‘view-only’.

Both cockpits are complete, so amongst the entire museum collection they are the closest that Newark has to ‘as-service-fit’ aircraft– so the trustees try to minimise access as much as possible. I’ve only sat in the Viggen once myself and that was shortly after it landed at Cranwell and it was before the seat was deactivated – as for the Draken I’ve never sat in that.

There is a Draken cockpit photograph included in the 1991-1999 Southfield album in here – just to whet peoples appetites for the 40th Anniversary Gala on 14th April 2013.

Please be aware!

A quick heads-up for anyone thinking of visiting NAM next week the Engine Hall will be temporarily closed on Tuesday 12th March – BBC film crew on site! 😉

I’ve found that if I login first then hit ‘reply’ I don’t have a problem; whereas if I hit ‘reply’ then login that’s when I have the post not updating properly!

Still it could still be a new piece of ‘anti-plugging’ software introduced by the mods!! 😀

Thanks for the considered feedback re Aeroboots/Aerojumbles – the failure to sell out was partially covered in #58 – loads of booking forms sent out in the last few days, but not taken through to a booking; likewise not sure why the no shows.

The ability to ‘interrogate’ the sector would also assist with the Non-User Surveys that we’re struggling with. :confused:

Event timings can perhaps be considered but I’m personally not sure that it makes much difference – broadly speaking the buyer numbers for the various Indoor events have been very similar! For me the biggest plus is bringing new items into the market – including NAMs own non-accessed items; more of those to follow later this year. 🙂

Interestingly only today I’ve received ‘seller’ enquires for the 40th Anniversary Gala!

Outline details of the 40th Anniversary Gala event on Sunday 14th April 2013 have now been posted on the NAM website, here in the usual location!

Quoting from the website, “One of the major aspects of the Gala event will see members of the Cockpit Opening Team opening aircraft cockpits that are not normally open to the public. This could include: the Vampire, Venom, NF14, Jetstream, Viggen and Draken. Some cockpits will be free to look in, and for those where visitors will be allowed to sit in a small additional fee of 40p per visit will be charged.”

Also mentioned is a free to enter photographic competition called ‘Favourites from 40!’
