A short Traffic Alert has been posted in here concerning some potential access issues if you’re hoping to visit NAM on Wednesday 16th January or Thursday 17th January, 2013.

    Sorry for any possible inconvenience!

Another short event update (number 06) has been added here!

It is seeking information about ‘non-flying’ personnel being given flights in the Lightning two-seaters; as always any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, the photos that are gradually being taken down were from the 2012 event, it’s not really a space issue but more to do with reduced usage / viewing; plus a lot of fresh images coming along for the museum’s 40th Anniversary Gala and the Lightning event.

The museum carefully monitors its webstats and the peak in viewing of the Cockpit-Fest albums was in the 6 weeks after this year’s event; and then in the run up to Cockpit-Fest USA. Since the beginning of December their traffic has been greatly reduced – so a freshening up was felt to be appropriate. 🙂

Once things get more into Cockpit-Fest mode no doubt more images will go back online. Yesterday, whilst looking for some Dove / Heron material I came across some of my own images that haven’t been posted from previous Cockpit-Fest’s so hopefully they will find their way into the system.

The museum is also trialling some digital photo-frames around the site, which will help raise awareness of all our events – fingers crossed they will eventually include a Cockpit-Fest set. They’re just getting ready to try this with around 300 Lightning scans, which look absolutely fantastic and have been sent over by a noted aviation photographer!

Problem is they are in New Zealand, would hate to think how much shipping will be so I’d doubt any museum over here will benefit.

My understanding is that a lot of interest has already been recorded in that particular direction! 😉

I appreciate the distance issues that you face Portagee – being just off the A1 we get lots of people breaking their journey with a ‘stop-off’ at the museum; but an extended stay in the area would allow you to get a lot out of a visit! 🙂

Don’t forget the Accommodation Link on the museum website – most links on there are still valid, although the whole website is due for an upgrade in the coming weeks!

    15 & 16 June 2013 – Cockpit-Fest 2013 & Aeroboot / Aerojumble

All we have listed so far for the 2013 gathering are the dates (15 & 16 June 2013 – Cockpit-Fest 2013 & Aeroboot / Aerojumble) in this listing – more information will be forthcoming in due course. 🙂

Plus a few images from last year in the Museum Gallery!

Thank you for your good wishes Alan – it would be good to see more forumites at all of the museum events this year!

I have spent part of today looking through my photo archive to assist Lee Howard’s appeal for Heron / Dove photos; during this search I came across a few nearly forgotten airframes that were briefly in NAM’s care. I plan to try and get some of these scanned up and perhaps displayed in the Photo Gallery on the NAM website under a heading of ‘Some of the ones that got away!’

These include some of Meteor F4 VT229 nearly stuck at the main gate at Duxford and also the same airframe parked at the side of the A1 before the Police issued the edict to wipe out the contraflow bollards that were wedged in the cat’s eyes – sadly I didn’t get a photograph of the trailing police car with the PC hanging out the back door replacing the bollards! 😮 (Those were the days!!)

Moggy – thanks for locking the 2012 Briefing thread.

All – work is currently underway on a major new publication all about the Dove/Heron family. If anyone has any interesting shots/information then I’d love to hear from you.

Is that in both civilian and military guises?

If the former I may be able to assist re – Heron G-ANXB and Dove G-AHRI; please drop me a PM with an email address. 🙂

….It amazes me that know one wanted the Meteor F.4 enough for it to remain at Duxford or even the UK.

From my understanding of the VT229 situation, it wasn’t quite as simple as – “no one wanting it enough!”

    Have you enquired at Newark?

I’m not sure what, if anything came with the B(I)8 Mod from Abingdon, but it might be worthwhile asking the question 970 catalogued APs mentioned on here!

The contact details for the Curator can be found at the bottom of this page! 😉
