IIRC there’s no VAT on book sales here! 😀

I also must confess to being a ‘tax-minimiser’ 😮 – I was involved in NAM (a registered charity) securing EU cultural exemption form VAT on admission fees – they’re now also de-registered for VAT as well; but not the trading company, which covenants its profits back to the main museum charity!

The flip side to all of this is the museum has to absorb any VAT costs on capital projects – at the present time the funding graph is running well on the positive axis!

As a minor aside the rebate NAM secured on the Cultural Exemption provided a lot of the partnership funding to build Hangar 2, along with publicly donated funds and the HLF grant!! 🙂

CD it still doesn’t work as the VAT (old days purchase tax) is paid by the consumer not the company (they’re merely acting as the tax collector for HMRC) – this link may help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_added_tax it’s simpler than the HMRC site!

How would you hit the coffee chains with this method – no VAT on take-out sales; only eat in!

Hi there RM, unfortunately it’s not quite as straight forward as a name and number (it never is).

The Milton memorial has been funded under their Local Improvement Scheme grant fund and basically the way it works is you submit an application for a project and it is considered on its merits, degree of local involvement etc. and here is a link to the relevant page on their website http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/thecouncil/democracy/partnerships/localism/lis/

I have just seen the newspaper cutting today and the memorial is more substantial than they indicated earlier this year and it looks really good.

jack russell who posts on here secured funding for an interpretation sign at Staunton; they gave a good grant to the Halam memorial etc. Plus they funded the schools DVD that NAM produced and also the Notts Aviation booklet with NAM.

On behalf of NAM I currently have another application lodged with them for an updated booklet that will hopefully just feature the Notts aviation memorials – including the new ones and those missed from edition 1, including a Dambuster related one that NCC had funded in Nuttall.

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of listening to an extremely interesting and thought provoking talk on the Hampden restoration at Cosford. This was given to the delegates at the Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire Autumn Conference that was held at Hemswell Court.

It certainly changed my understanding of, and level of admiration for their work; it also provided some tantalising insights into their future plans on various projects.
