Can anybody explain what the two aerials are, both on the undersides of the wings between the fuselage and inboard engines ? I have seen them on the Newark and Duxford Hasting’s .

I think that the two aerials are ILS related – but I could be wrong! :confused:

Sky High – if you’re coming over early next year it might be good to use those ROC cards to practice your recognition skills; some volunteers are working on an interesting competition for early in the New Year. 😀

As for the 5 figure sum… ye, way over the top. It’s a shame because she’s a nice aircraft and worthy of a secure future!

Thanks to the generosity of XS919’s former owner Newark recently received a donation of new steelwork for the refurbishment of the Argosy Simulator building. 😀 😀

So we are in agreement that (a) she won’t be scrapped but will instead end up on a farm (both barrels). That (b) the cockpit section becomes the pride and joy of one enthusiast, while (c)) others pick the bones of useful parts, while (d) the fin is restored and displayed at Newark. I would imagine that income generated from sending the rest to a farm would pay for moving expenses.

All we need is to convince the owners that the best thing was to part with her for a nominal fee or get the local council to intervene.

Questions: who are the owners and which county [council] does the aircraft reside in?

I personally think that the reason why she survives is because of the price of scrap metal these days.

IMHO it survives as a ‘potential political lever’ with the local planning authorities re the long running planning issues for the site. I understand the person involved may have similar issues with another site – elsewhere alongside the A1!

Come on you lot if you really want this aircraft stick your hands deep in your pocket and buy it!

The owner will sell it at a cost he’s not stupid and going to give it away, yes it’s scrap just like many others but if you can do something with this then get your cash out and buy it.

Im sure it’s worth more complete than just hacking off the cockpit?

I think post #4 sums it up – to the best of my ‘current’ knowledge Newark has made five official approaches since the airframe first arrived; most long before it got into its present condition. :rolleyes:
