Don’t think Newark has yet applied for funding but they seem to be looking in to it.

“Co-operative Building Project Being Investigated
The trustees of the Newark Air Museum [NAM] and the Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association [LLA] have agreed to cooperate on a project to investigate the possibility of constructing a third aircraft display hall at the museum’s site in eastern Nottinghamshire close to the Lincolnshire border.

The aim of the new Avro Project is to provide under cover accommodation for the Avro Shackleton MR.3 Phase 3 WR977 and Avro Vulcan B.2 XM594 aircraft that are owned by the LLA and that are currently displayed at NAM. Hopefully the building will also provide sufficient space for a third large aircraft like the Handley Page Hastings T.5 TG517 to be displayed under cover.

Work is currently underway to prepare a Project Planning Grant [PPG] application to the Heritage Lottery Fund [HLF], which will evaluate various aspects of the proposed project. This will include: Audience Development; Sustainability; Building Design; and evaluation of the potential aircraft movement routes into any new building.

Prior to commencement of the current evaluation project the Charity Commission reviewed the Articles of Association for both charities, and gave its approval for a cooperative project of the type being proposed. Further details of the PPG application will be released when they become available. [9am – 02.04.07]”

At least they have experience with a HLF funded building that has Varsity etc inside.

BAPC Log Book has a tyre-filling article by Newark Air Museum and the company mentioned is Vacu-Lug at Grantham.

Whilst filed tyres can flat spot the process can be beneficial from a health and safety perspective, especially when filling old high pressure tyre like those found on Vulcans and Lightnings.

The crests on both sides of Newark’s Jetstream are 45 [Reserve] Squadron not the Cranwell crest; even their Bulldog whilst wearing the light blue College Band does not [I believe] carry the Cranwell crest.

I guess at Swinderby orders are orders! At least I have some photos.

As for Newton, many of the building are being leased to a range of different companies and there was the issue of an asylum centre hanging over the site for several years.

The Gliding Club issue has been doing the rounds for at least two years. As I understand things [by coincidence updated this last weekend whilst en-route to Swinderby] it is a two way call between the MoD and Crown Estates over the possible clean-up of the potentially contaminated land – three ways if you include the Gliding Club that is looking for a new site, but cannot get sorted because of the other dispute.

Just a slight clarification.

Swinderby is now in private hands – I believe the company name quoted to me by the private security company operative was Evans Estates. I guess that he was well within his rights to stop me taking pictures on private property, but he didn’t object when I did it from the highway.

Not so sure whether Newton has been fully handed over as I know a local Gliding Club has trying to negotiate to use the site but are having all sorts of difficulties. Mainly with Crown Estates in relation to clean up of possibly contaminated land. When I took those pictures, the Robot Wars filming was in one of the old hangars and the car parking was around the old taxiways.
