I have read some very disturbing stuff on cabincrew.com about GSM. Any airline whos mechanics have nicknamed its own aircraft (757s) as Fireball 1 and 2 needs to take a long look at itself.

My two local airports (LPL and MAN) have both suffered at the hands of GSM, so dont get your hpos up at EME. The JFK/LPL route was a farce, one week the route didnt operate for 4 days. GSM left its pax stranded and did nothing at all to help them. When GSM pull out of LPL the airport will breathe a huge sigh of relief as GSM have been an embarassment. The direct LPL-JFK daily service for example turned out to be a 4 weekly 737 via Connaught and Canada, sometimes with Keflavik thrown in too!

Bye Bye GSM, dont come back.

Sky has got the newspiece on interractive now. How nice we have an icon back in the skies after the premature grounding of Concorde.

Will it now be used in the (forthcoming?) film of the book Vulcan607?

Great shot of the E145. From the front with its nose down attitude and engines cantered upwards from the fuselage its quite an aggressive looking aircraft. Get your pics of the ex BA jats now before they all disapear.

No loss to Livepool to see the back of GSM, they are a joke. Take a look at the GSM thread on the cabincrew.com forum to see how bad things are at GSM. I would imagine the Fire Service at Liverpool will be glad to see the back of Fireball 1 and 2 for good.

Yes the Beluga does arrive up to four times per day. I live under the approach in Wrexham so hear them quite regually. The factory in Broughton does shift wings, especially narrowbody at an amazing rate. But the Beluga doesnt just fly out wings, Rolls Royce use it sometimes for Engines.

The only scheduled activity at the airfield for Airbus is the Privat A319 to and from Tolouse and the J41 to Bristol. The A306ST flies as required, it can arrive up to 4 times per day.

    Hope this helps.

Quite frankly, I’m stumped as to why these neo-luddites decide to focus on aviation. As I recall, aviation emissions account for roughly 2% of global carbon emissions, being vastly outstripped by oceanic shipping and agriculture in terms of it’s impact on the environment.

I think my solution to this “Camp Climate Change” would be to wait until they’re all sheltering in their tents, then roll out a 747-400 or a 777, turn it so they’re in the jet blast and throttle upto maximum N1 whilst sitting on the parking brakes. Hopefully they’ll be in Cornwall by the time they realise what’s happening. 😀

You could also just throw soap, they would run a mile 🙂

in reply to: Jet2 to get 767s!? #502951

    Hi guys

I just dont understand Jet2s plans. We have seen with Easyjet and Ryanair that truly successful lo-co operators need to use a single-common aircraft type (well eventually with EZY). No need for sepaprate type-ratings, simulators, engineers, crew training etc. Not only do Ryanair and Easyjet operate one aircraft but they are mostly new aircraft. Ryanair are even contemplating replacing its earlier B739s now.

The newness of these aircraft gives reliability. I just cant see the sense in purchasing a third model old Bong that will be 15+ years old.

We have seen with Globespan that old aircraft bring poor reliability. I for one was excited at the though of flying from Liverpool to NY but now after GSMs problems I dont think I will ever use them. Thats down to the poor reliability of their leased almost 20 year old B757.

To be efficient as a lo-co you need your jets in the air 18 hours a day. For this you need reliable jets. maybe Jet2 should ditch there plans to aquire old Bongs and push for a newer jet.

For them to do this I think Jet2 need to consolodte from 3 types to 2. Ok a flight deck crew can cross deck qualify from 757 to 767. The cabin crew however need to be cross type trained as do the mechanics. Two different types of spares need to be held by maintenance as do the tickets by the engineers. All these factors bump up overheads, ergo ticket prices.

If Jet2 are to aquire 767s then surely its time to ditch the 757. A 762 could perform the duties of a 752 but the overheads for it would be increased. Maybe the 733 should be put aside for the sake of fleet commonality?

if you were planning a 2 type fleet for Jet2. One for sort/medium haul and one type for medium/long haul what would your choices of aircraft be? For me it would be B739s and leased B762s until B778s became available. Im an Airbus man myself byt it makes sense to keep your already trained 733 crews within type, even though the A3-narrow body fleet is in my opinion comfier as a self-loader.
