What a great move by the airport authorities. Ignore the direct cost of re-opening this facility and look at the indirect income that will be gained from this. If you want to spend a day in comfort you will quite happily part with some hard-earned for a few hours car parking along with a sandwich and drink from a shop in the terminal. It also means that the sane spotter/photogropher/enthusiast will no longer have to go poking around the perimiter fence looking for somewhere to view from. Lets hope this sees more facilities opening or re-opening.

The flights I have taken have always used airbridges.

Do not go into the shops or duty free in Dalaman airport. They may as well wear three pointed hats and call themselves Turpin in the shops. On my first visit I bought a Beer, Coffee, Sandwich and Crisps. £25. It will set you back over £10 for a generic McBuger and starch sticks. You go through a security screen just to get in to the terminal and can take drinks past this point but not past the second screening after you have checked in. Have a hearty breakfast and book a meal on the flight.

Duty Free is also similarly expensive. All prices are bizzarley in Euros.

The terminal is very modern and clean. The old terminal is now used for domestic flights. Apart from my TCX flight I have only ever seen EZY at Dalaman, but thats because I travel there out of season. Last visit did bring up two unidentified Mi8s. Big glass windows which are very clean do offer a good view across the ramp.

Attached to DLM is a Turkish Miliatry Base. I have never seen it being used by an active Turkish Air Force Aircraft. You will drive past the entry to the base when you go back to DLM on the way home. Look out for the cherry F5 and F104 mounted on poles.

Dont forget to take a clean and unused £10 note for each person for their 90 day tourist visa. Enjoy turkey, its beautiful.

I have had 4 recent flights with Thomas Cook. All flights were pleasant with friendly crew and fair food. My only beef with the airline is its call cantre. They are still playing the ‘thank you for understanding, we are working hard to alleviate the problem’ queing message after a year!

By the time they estbalish No Fly Zone, Gaddaffi would have reached his objectives with his airforce, and then will lose his artillery and land troops to advance further.

Americans don’t want boots on the ground and the UK I think won’t want it either. How about the French and Italian troops ?

French and Italian troops in Libya. Is a parade being arranged?

I travel to Gatwick to fly to DLM with Thomas Cook as flights are generally cheaper from there. Jet2 and Easyjet also serve Dalaman.

A word of warning for when you use Dalaman. You have to pay £10.00 for an entry Visa. Turkish Immigration will only accept new(ish) and untatty £10 notes. If two of you go along take two tens and not one tewnty.

On departure food, drink and duty free are hellishly expensive. Last year a beer, coffee, sandwich, crisps and a muffin cost over £25.00. Have something to eat before you leave for the airport.

When you arrive at the airport to leave in your car, bus, taxi watch out for an F104 and F5 mounted on poles, they are cherry.

Some scolarships are available such as those from GAPAN. Have a search in goole for them. Dont be tempted to go down the modular route with a finance package offered by a flying school. You could wind up with no job and a huge debt to repay. Have a look at the PPRUNE forums for the pitfalls of integrated training. You are doing the right thing by working your way through your training in a ‘modular’ fashion. Consider going straight into your ATPL theory once you have passed your PPL, with distance learning. Your head will still be in ‘learning mode’ after taking the PPL theory exams. Try to fly a little every now and then as you do your ATPL theory. Once you have your PPL approach a gliding school. You may not get paid for your work but its an excellent way to build hours.

Went to the AVP today £6 for a 2 hour stay. I asked in the shop if I could buy a 25 visit card. I was told that the sale of these has now been suspended. A photo ID is going to be introduced I was told. Also told that charges are under review.

Please guys at Manchester Airport, hurry up and make up your minds. If the current dithering and constant changing of prices continues people are going to start to drift away from the AVP. While the majority of enthusiasts are sensible our hobby does attract a few nutters. It wouldnt suprise me if out of frustration these few will wind up cutting holes in the fence for camera lenses to poke through, and even worse finding themselves in unauthorised places looking for a vantage point.

Give us a good facility (you have) at a fair price (you have not) and we will use it.

So if you are on a two hour flight and fancy a beer (which eire o’flot make a killing on) and then find you have to spend a pound to recycle it, will it stop you from buying the beer in the first place.

Are eire o’flot in danger of shooting themselves in the foot.

Also imagine this scenario. You are flying into Dublin or Shannon from the UK. On your flight are 25 or so burly rugby players going on tour. They all got to the airport a few hours before the flight and got stuck-in at the bar. Will they all queue up patiently ready for spend a pound two or three times during the flight?

Or, was it all just free publicity from gobsh**e o’dreary for eire o’flot?
