I noticed the photos semm to have disappeared as well, maybe because of the subsequent investigation into the cause?
redsquare, I concur, the energy released when one of those fan disks lets go must be enormous, I read somewhere its not unusual to finds parts over a kilometre away following an uncontained failure! 😮

It seems the #2 (right) engine failed first
Looks to me like the No.1 engine failed first, the huge damage to the cowling and subsequent fire damage to the wing/flaps and to a lesser extent the fuselage give it away, the damage to the No.2 engine appears to be from the errant fan disk which departed the No.1 engine, you can still see what appears to be part of the disk protruding from the rear of the engine.

Surprise, surprise, SX-BSW has gone tech again, two XLA flights into EMA this afternoon operated by TC-AKN (World Focus Airlines) and G-XLAA (Excel), great news for spotters, not so good for the SLF!

The UKJet at EMA is SX-BSW which was formerly SE-RDH which Air Scandic used last summer – and look what happened to them! – , it had a habit of going tech at every available opportunity and looks set to do the same this summer as well, not a very good advert for Excel!

Currently the only scheduled 747 cargo flights into EMA are flown by Kalitta Air, at the moment Saturday afternoons are when they arrive, this weeks aircraft was N706CK. There is a full schedule on Kalitta’s website.
Hope this helps.

Jets: B-1B, Vulcan, Harrier (in the hover)
Props: An-22 (head-on), An-26 – not the engines, just the APU!

Come to EMA, we have a pretty good balance of EZY, RYR and BMI – at the moment! 😉

I doubt very much if it had sidewinders on the wingtips, the DASS pods live there. 😉

Glad to be of sevice Jonesy. 🙂

No doubt about it, a very nice place to go to work, but it doesn’t look nearly as cool as the photos published of the 787’s flightdeck. (IMHO) 😉

Jonesy, Sentinel is the name given to the new ASTOR platform which is based on the Global Express airframe, the E-3D is called the Sentry. 😉

I would say nice pics……but then again it is only a Lawn Dart! :diablo: 😉
