Cracking pics, love the first one of the Typhoon, great angle of a superb looking machine! 😎

F-4 wins hands down, absolutely no contest. Its combat record alone is remarkable. And the F-4G with the APR-38/47 has yet to find a credible replacement. (IMHO) 😉

The following extract is from the Globalsecurity.org website.
The lightly loaded airframe is combined with an equally impressive flight control system. A hydraulically actuated, mechanically controlled flight control system is augmented by an electronic system known as the Control Augmentation System (CAS). This system takes the stick inputs from the pilot and deflects the flight controls in the proper direction at the proper rate for optimal aircraft handling. This system allows the pilot to fly the aircraft to the limits of its capabilities without losing control of the aircraft. The CAS can also actuate the flight controls via pilot input if the hydro-mechanical system is damaged
Hope this helps.

Phil, check your PM’s mate.

To the best of my knowledge no variants of the F-15 (A/B/C/D/E) have fly-by-wire, although there is a system fitted to avoid overstressing the airframe and possibly getting into areas of the flight envelope which could lead to departure from controlled flight, I think it was nicknamed ‘Bitchin’ Betty’ or something by pilots, the actual name is the Control Augmentation System (CAS).

Phil, Fonk and NungesserC are both perfectly balanced individuals…..they’ve got a chip on both shoulders! :diablo:
Sorry, couldn’t resist. 😉

DJJ, whilst I couldn’t agree more with your wish for this thread and, no doubt, future threads to move on to a more considered line of reasoning, I don’t hold out much hope. Theres one or two people here who seem incapable of reasoned debate, who point blank refuse to accept anyone elses opinion unless it is similar to theirs, I’m sure it if it was discovered that a pilot had stubbed his toe climbing the cockpit ladder to the Typhoon we would then be deluged with comments on how the ladder used to weigh 100kgs and now it weighs 120kgs and thats the reason he stubbed his toe!

I have to agree Leahy’s constant snipes at Boeing are tiresome, and his inference that because the 777 failed to recieve any orders in its first year after launch somehow makes its success questionable just because the A380 has recieved orders since its launch is about as far fetched as sh!t from China! So I’d have to concur an otherwise informative conference marred by petty digs at Boeing, who after all hardly did badly in 2005 did they?

I’m pretty sure we’ve stepped away from that stuff now,
Hoorah!
And its Dazza by the way! 😉
-Dazza (see, there it is again)
I’m in shock, its almost 9:00pm and this thread has – besides this one – only one reply and has yet to descend with tedious inevitablity into the usual A. v B. flame war! 😮
I’m impressed.

How come that now PPRuNe appears to be using exactly the same BB as Key Publishing, the PPRuNe version still loads much quicker? (dial-up only)

Doh!!!!! Thanks guys. (note to self: must pay more attention!)
