    Dazza,
Part of the reason the US govt is sooooo sensitive is that a large chunk of the Iran/Contra debacle was the supply of F4/F14 spares and weaponry BY the US Govt! Yes, the IRIAF has proven very adept at reverse-engineering components to keep the aircraft viable; there’s also a lot of ‘dual use’ tech out there which is why the USML is so draconian.

Reagan and Oliver North have got a lot to answer for!:highly_amused:

Evalu8ter, whilst your comments are entirely true, if the various government bodies that have so far prevented civilian ownership/operation of even a ground running F-4 (Collings Foundation excepted…) by a heritage group on the basis that it might enable the Iranians to keep their fleet airworthy by being a potential source of illicit spares, then i despair at the stupidity of that assumption! (by the gov, not you! 🙂 ) The Iranians, i suspect, are a little bit more savvy than that! There has been a number of reports over the years of them receiving spares clandestinely, not to mention the fact that i imagine they have managed to reverse engineer some of the spares they need…

I guess by ‘ridiculous restrictions’ you mean the ‘Conventional Forces Europe’ Treaty that saw the dismantling of large quantities of hardware and verification by either sides ?

    Yes…

A fully de-militarized F-4F was offered for sale a few months back so, i guess German F-4s aren’t subject to same (ridiculous) restrictions that ex-RAF F-4s were. If the rumours are to be believed then it could well be 38+48… As ever, until it happens take everything with a large pinch of salt!

    Some more problems. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2485533/Technical-fault-left-RAF-pilots-unable-flying-100-million-aircraft.html

Old news, and the BAE Systems designed helmet was dropped a couple of weeks back, typical rubbish from the ‘Daily Fail’…

The terminology used in that press release is shocking, talk about using a thousand words when a few would’ve done!

The drone was identified and targeted using mission systems sensors and the target’s “track” information was passed to the radar-seeking missile, say Lockheed.

The weapon launched from the aircraft’s internal weapons bay, acquired the target and flew an “intercept flight profile,” says Lockheed.

And since when was the AIM-120 a ‘radar-seeking’ missile?

p.s. Its good that its finally done its first live-fire missile test after ‘only’ nearly seven years after its first flight…

The E has a strengthened airframe and several different manufacturing techniques compared to the A/B/C/D, and don’t forget, the C/D models are getting rather long in the tooth now…

Given the amount of 747Fs, including some -8Fs which have never been delivered, that are finding their way into the desert, i’d say the market for 747 freighters is on the slide as well…

Have they trained enough pilots to stand up a squadron?

Clearly enough to send the recent detachment from 3 Sqn to RAF Coningsby for exercise ‘Green Flag’…

Airbus may well have been in the Japanese market for years but, on a very, very small scale compared to Boeing’s dominance, and 17 A320s does not mean ANA has a ‘large’ fleet. Wether you like it or not, this order does represent a huge snub/massive blow/kick in the gonads to Boeing. I’m sure if this had been Boeing winning an order in an Airbus dominated market you’d be singing a very different tune…

You have to understand that the people that are signing up to buy the F-35, and those that will be operating it are perfectly aware of its performance specs

Rubbish, the majority of customers had already agreed to purchase the pile of crap long before the ‘lowering’ of its performance specs started to happen… And have any of those performance specs been revised upwards again? hmm…

Some friendly advice, this ‘jackster’ individual is remarkably like (i.e. exactly the same) as a certain ‘JSFfan’ over on the PPRuNe forums, don’t try to enter into reasoned debate or expect any kind of contrition when you prove him wrong, especially with regard to the F-35, its like banging your head against a brick wall…

    Afternoon chaps, a request if i may…
Can anyone post a definitive(ish) list of the Typhoon’s upgrades please? What i’d ideally like is the upgrade name (P1E, P2E etc) and its contents/weapons integration etc, and the different software drops. I know Scorpion kept us up to speed in the previous Typhoon thread but, the thought of slogging through the entire thread fills me dread!
