The 15 ex-USN F-4Js the RAF bought were stock F-4Js, they never had any wing mods to bring them in line with RAF’s FGR.2/FG.1s because they didn’t need any, the wing was identical. As you’ve already noted, F-4Js never had the manoeuvring slats until the upgrade to F-4S standard. The only mods the RAF F-4J(UK)s received to bring them in line with the RAF’s existing fleet were very late in their service lives, and that was the change from USN to RAF flying clothing and harnesses when the withdrawal of the FG.1 fleet allowed the fitting of RAF spec MB Mk.7 ejection seats.

Neither news or an update but, a spectacular display by 2013 RAF Typhoon display pilot Flt Lt Jamie Norris. Finally shows the true agility of the ‘phoon in my opinion (previous RAF Typhoon displays always seemed somewhat restrained…), the negative G ‘outside turn’ is more than most current jets can mange at positive G! Just wish they’d lose the centreline tank and really let rip! 😎 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dG2tGCTGPY

Slayer’s 1980s and early 1990s output was great. In recent times Christ Illusion was a decent Slayer album. World Painted Blood wasn’t that great. Did you guys know Jeff Hanneman died recently?
For Thrash these days, I think Overkill, Evile, Onslaught, Lazarus A.D. and Warbringer churn out some good stuff. Only Overkill and Onslaught are old school though – hell Overkill predate Slayer and Metallica. Megadeth and Anthrax are still in game, albeit playing more traditional heavy metal/hard rock (Anthrax’s latest album Worship Music is phenomenal and a real return to form).
Totally off-topic.
As to Eurofighter, it doesn’t look like a “Slayer”
Completely agree with all regarding SLAYER and the ‘phoon, and totally gutted when I first read of Jeff’s untimely death…

p.s. I really am sorry for the continued thread drift…
Should be piloted by Kerry King! :dev2:
Kerry King isn’t fit to lick the soot from around the APU exhaust given his remarks and and actions regarding SLAYER over the past 18 months!!!
Sorry for the thread drift…

Best looking? YF-23 without question…

If it got into a close-in fight, in the right hands the Lightning should prevail, it was quite an agile jet for the time with plenty of grunt from those RR Avons!

…why wasn’t there effort to house this armament in the Harrier GR7 ?
Most likely because some cretin in the MOD thought to himself, ‘why waste money fitting a gun pod to a CAS aircraft?’

They can’t even get the Joint $hite Fighter right, they’ve got no hope with this! :highly_amused:

That Typhoon pilot appears to be so fascinated with the approaching F-4s thats he’s run onto the grass! :p

If only the ATF comp was judged on looks alone, the YF-23 would’ve won hands down! What a stunning looking jet it is compared to the awful YF/F-22…

Nothing to do with me. Nic’s obviously hurt about something.
I wasn’t pointing fingers, just a general observation really… 🙂

It never ceases to amaze me how, in almost any thread concerning the UK or France, it invariably turns into a nationalistic pi$$ing match, congratulations…

was there ever a phantom with a one piece windshield?
Yes, a number of USAF RF-4Cs, F-4Es and F-4Gs were fitted with one-piece windshields but, they were never adopted fleet wide, I’m sure a couple of the F-4Es ended up with the Turkish AF
Here are a couple of F-4Gs with one-piece windshields…
